I'm currently cycling a 96l tank and reaserching which fish i would like.
The fish i've got it down to are 3 dwarf gouramie's,2 blue rams and 4 black phantom tetras.... does these sound ok together in that size tank?... any advice appreciated

yes within reason. If you buy 3 male dwarf gouramis they might argue a bit. Having lots of floating plants will help prevent this. Male dwarf gouramis are colourful (blue or red) and females are just silver.
You could also get 6-8 black phantoms. The more you have the happier they will be. Male black phantoms have black pelvic fins and females have red. Males also develop a bigger pointed dorsal fin.
And you could have a couple of pygmy corydoras or otocinclus catfish to help clean up excess food and algae. If you don't want them then perhaps a mystery snail.

You would be best adding something hardier like Platies or Mollies to start off with as the ones you have listed are quite sensitive to changes in water.
If you kept one male Gourami with 2 females, then you shouldn't have too much aggression. You are best adding these after the tank has been set up for a good 2-3 months minimum. Dwarf Gouramies are prone to bacterial infections so keep a close eye on them. Another alternative would be Honey Gouramies, very peaceful and don't get too big.
Rams are also very sensitive, so the longer the tank has been set up, the better your chances are of keeping them alive.

thanks for the replys.
just been to the fish shop and saw some nice puffa type mollys so might get 4 of those and 6 phantom tetras for the first few months....

mollys generally like hard alkaline water whereas the tetras are from soft acid water. Try to keep the PH close to neutral (7.0) so both types of fish will be happy.
