sorry i put it wrong the tank is 56 gallons, the things that u think are worms on the glass are called bubble flowing around the water, my water conditions are perfect all tested

the other week i decided to change from community to lake malawi cichlids, i have 4 pairs, 2 kribs, 2 yellow labs but i cant remember the names of the other 2 pairs. 2 of them are like peachy coloured n the other 2 are orange with 3 yellow dots on the fin under their body.i need some more fish as i want more colours any one got any good suggestions??

heres my tank btw

Going by the scale of the pic in your first post, I would say that it isn't anywhere near 56 gallons (US or otherwise) and too small for these fish. The barnacle shells are the giveaway sign, they never get more than a 3cm opening in them IME.
What size are the fish in this pic?

if it's 56g i would like to know dimesions?

as you can see each end in the one pic so the fish would be huge....

also are you taking the kribs out?

:good:

I thought Fluval only made internal filters 1 to 4, what number is that cause it must be massive? :shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

edit: Just did a little maths in my noggin!!!

Lets say the length of the tank was 40 inches (roughly about the length of a 56gallon tank)

I measure the tank in the picture to be 15 inches on my computer screen,

This gives an aspect ratio of 1/2.3,

The krib in the bottom right hand corner is measured at 2 inches on my computer screen,

If I then take the length of the fish and multiply it by the aspect ratio (2.3)

It works out at 4.66 inches,

The maximum size for a Krib is 4 inches.

Maybe this is just an effect caused by the magnification power of water??? or its my maths. One or the other!

I bought this tank yesterday and its 36x12x18************its only 28 uk gallons. either way mate, the tanks too small, I reckon thats the fluval 3plus, which only stands at roughly 12 inches. theres no shame in making a mistake!!!!!!!

Thats a nice looking tank Brewyn, can I ask how much ( or how little knowing you) did you pay for it? What are the plans? Nice to see you posting again. :)

Hello tanks. I paid £65, it included an external fluval 204, 2x 300watt heaters and a light unit and also a cable tidy. I did give it to the missus today for her livebearers, and after she spent a couple of hours cleaning it up, she then discovered we couldn't get it up the stairs hahahahaha, so its now become mine again and I haven't even had to clean it, she's not happy but I'm LMAO :lol:

tbh i went into the fish shop and asked the women that owned it and had owned it for 14 yrs told her the size of my tank and that i wanted to convert it to cichlids. she told me these fish wud be fine and even the kribs would survive as she had them in the tank with the rest. she is very expierenced as she has a tank at home and it has been running for years.my fish are not dying, or they are not unhappy, or being violent to other fish.i am going to the wholesalers next week to get a big tank to convert everything.i came on this site for some advice not abuse about my tank.

Hey Fiesta

I know it may seem that people are having a go, but we are really not. We are just trying to esure that you get the maximum about of pleasure out of this hobby and this is achieved when the fish in your care live in the best possible habitat and conditions.

At present, your fish maybe not be"dying, or they are not unhappy, or being violent" but over time they will be. I have read on this forum somewhere, that an aquarium is only successful when it has been running without major calamities for 1 - 2 years. I think you have done a very good job setting up the tank, but with the fish choices that you have made it needs to be in a bigger tank, minus the kribs. Granted you have gone on the information of a "trusted professional" in your lfs, but you must remember than many opinions are better than one. I am looking forward to seeing the new tank when it arrives. Please keep us posted.

Typical, thats like giving your mrs a power sander for a birth day present!!! Well done!

I am sure nobody meant to be abusive- but there is nothing that gets people's backs up so much as asking their advice and then not telling the truth (if you are getting a bigger tank, presumably that is not a 56 gallon, right?). It is not making people's task easy, is it, if you keep shifting the goalposts.

The thing is, people on this forum see so many instances every day of misleading information being doled out by owners of lfs, including those who have been a long time in the trade, that they are not likely to believe something that goes against all their experience just because somebody's been told so by a salesperson. Do you even know if this woman has had a similar setup to yours, kribs in with lake cichlids, at home for many years? The fact that she can keep them in the shop means nothing (another thing we are constantly explaining on this forum): fish in lfs tend to be juveniles and as they are only in their a short time don't have time to establish territories- which is when nasty things start happening.

Please don't be discouraged, as long as you provide exact information and don't lose your temper when you don't like the advice given, I am sure you will get more help than aggro from the forum.

and those were the NICE replies.....you REALLY dont want to or need to cop an attitude, you came here for help, a nice pat on the back and when WE do our job you cry about it? If you think you or that lfs owner thats ONLY interested in your money know more then by all means, go back to her for advice..

on the other hand, if you think that a group of people that have been collectivly in the hobby for probably 50+ years that has NOTHING to gain by helping others might have something to offer you then please pull up a chair and stay a while....

Hey fiesta, who told you all this info? it wont be sarah at southport aquastore as she doesn't own the shop and she is usualy quite knowledgable and honest, she never pushes a sale. and I cant see it being Fiona on eastbank st, as she has never kept malawis, and infact they only have 1 or 2 very expensive, and underfed yellow labs in. It wont be barry in formby as he is obviously a he, and not a she. just interested mate, and I will have a word with them about the incorrect info there giving to people like yourself. :good:

hahahah, just looked at your photo again, youv,e been to the aquastore on churchill ave, they have got the cribs, yellow labs and red zebras in stock now, the one on eastbank st doesn't stock red zebs. and if thats the case then those red zebras are my babies LOL
plus, sarah would not have known the dimensions of your tank if she sold you malawis!!!!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also the peach coloured fish you are refering to are called albino greshaki, as they also have some of these in stock!!!!!!!
the blue ones are the blue zebra cichlids, again in stock and very small as you said.
seems the only thing you didn't get are the blue morri and the blue ahli.
I THINK ITS SAFE TO SAY YOUV'E BEEN TO THE AQUASTORE AND SPOKEN TO SARAH.
PS, incase your wondering, I live in southport, (highpark) and know sarah very well.
