A few months have passed now since my custom tank arrived, at first I was extremely happy but once in place it suddenly dawned on me I had measured wrong :-(. I had not left enough room at the rear of the tank for any external filter pipe work.

After exploring the idea of drilling the bottom of the tank for some bulkhead fittings i settled on a internal filter. Admittedly I'm not best pleased with myself and im not to happy with settling but after the tank took a back seat for a few weeks yesterday I had the urge to make a start on the scape.

I had already decided on a sand substrate and new I wanted some large dark rocks a quick look on a few facebook selling sites i found a sack full of lava rock for a bargain.

So after a little playing around this is what I have achieved so far. Any thoughts and suggestions welcome especially on the low care low light favouring plants and maybe someway of disguising the filter.

Is there enough space to add a pipe at the side of the tank?  You can buy clear piping so it doesn't look obtrusive.

Java fern, anubias and cryptocorynes are my favourite low-light plants.  Perhaps a tall plant such as vallis or hygrophila in front of the filter.

Cheers guys will have a look at the plants as for room there is nothing in my haist I wanted a tank that fit flush in the alcove but totally forgot about wires and pipes luckily the gap is just large enough for the filter and heater wires
