Heya all,

have just this afternoon (bout 6 hours ago) setup a little 2.5gal for something. Ive not yet quite decided!

Been and brough 4kg of aquarium sand. I washed it all before it went in. Only thing in the tank at the moment is the sand, heater, filter and a small plastic hollow log. No chemicals added bar tapsafe.

Thing thats worrying me is that i can litteraly see smoke in the water. Should i leave it running and hope it settles, or should i turn the filter off until it has settled on the bottom?

Also, what should i keep once its cycled? :D any recommendations for plants? Lighting is only from 2 cold cathodes so its not too bright. There is a bedrock of broken slate under the sand.

Dimensions: 12" x 8" x 8"

That smoke on the water wouldn't be deep purple by any chance :shifty:

Sorry, one for the oldies ;)

Don't worry, quite common when using sand. Even when washed it can contain some dust.

Give it a while (several days, depending on type of filtration)

I got it, it made me giggle.

Cheers for that, thought it might be, just want to be sure as ive not used sand before.

I agree. Its most likely just dust from the sand. It sems that no matter how much you wash it, it never gets totally clean.

The other likely explanation would be a bacterial bloom but as you don't have anything in there other than sand, it won't be that.

Your filter should deal with the dust within a few days. Let us know how it goes?

Cheers :good:

BTT

11:30 each night the same thing. The site jams up and usually you get the 'IPS Driver Error' screen, but tonight it just posted my post 3 times instead! :dunno:

My weird sense of humour

cheers for the feedback, its already looking alot clearer.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what i can actually keep in the tank? Otherwise it'll just be a pretty tank of warm water!

Try Camboba you couldn´t kill it if you tried. My LFS stocks it so I guess it´s available most places.

Just thought id let you know its settled now, water is crystal clear. Tank looks a bit bare at the moment so might nip and pickup some plants and a few rocks & shells.

You can set your watch by it. 11:30pm exactly. It must be due to some update or something?
Yeah, its gotta be some utility that kicks off on the servers and causes the database to be too slow. I think anytime the overall system is too slow to let the database respond, we see the IPS error, although that's just a guess of course. I agree its like clockwork.
