Transfered fish from my old tank to new one today and used my filter media from old tank. However it looks like the water is just slightly cloudy. Is this normal as I figured the fact I used mature filter media would mean the water would be clear.

it migt be abit of a bacterial bloom and tiny sand particals , it still should be cycled really before you put fish in but it should beclear by the morning but don't 100% quote me on that lol

I just put my current filter media in new tank with the old tank water topped up with tap water dechlorinated. Was same amount of fish so figured wont need really need much work.

Checked this morning and water has cleared quite alot. Also tested it and no traces of ammonia or nitrite so looks like moving my media from old tank is doing its job. I only have the fish in which I took from my old tank which include.

1 Adult Angel.
2 Dwarf Gourami
3 Zebra Danios
1 Blue Ram
1 Molly
3 Blue Aspistos
5 ALbino Cory's
4 Congo Tetras
1 Albino Plec

Figured if stuck these in a tank without mature media there would have been traces of ammonia by now so thing look ok at the minute.

I'd put money on it just being the sand that's clouded the water. Especially if it was instant..?

When I transferred to sand I just stuck a small internal into my tank full of filter floss, cleaned the floss daily and my tank cleared after a few days. :)

Yeah I think your right as it looks much clearer than it did yesterday. All fish seem to have taken the change well also so far.

I added the 2 foam pads from my 125 tank into my new tank. How long does it take for the bacteria to transfer over to the pads that are in the new tank. I ask this because i think I am going to take the old pads back out and reset up my 125 tank as a species tank only or something like that.

give it a good couple of months before removing ur mature media
