I got a 110 gallon tank for christmas. i've decided on an african cichlid set up. i have so far, 2 red zebras, 1 electric yellow, 1 blue zebra, sailfin pleco, and an african cichlid i have yet to pin a proper title on. Also turns out i bought an american cichlid(so i've been told) out of the fish shop here when i was told it was an african malawi.

was wondering what some suggestions would be for tank mates to my set up?? I'm thinking a frontosa, and moori. but i would love to have breeding pairs in the tank also, so i'm at a bit of a rut on deciding.

well, heres the tank:

this is the american cichlid i have yet to pin a proper title to. it frequently changes from the stripe and dots to a grey, to a dark grey almost black, so if anyone could help me figure it out, it would be AWESOME!!!

oh my gosh!! i think youre right!!! i'm going to guess perhaps a festivum (after just quickly googling it). thats amazing how quickly you knew that. I've been searching for two weeks for a forum that would be able to give some educated guesses!!

Nice one, once you've got a full stocking and perhaps upgraded the lighting you'll have a great tank :)

this is EXACTLY what my fish is. thank you so much! very much appreciated.

for a light change, would that just be the bulbs upgrading, or actually buying a whole new top to the aquarium??

and i'm stuck on what to stock in the tank...

i love frontosas and moorii. but i have yet to figure out if the frontasa would be able to eat my electric yellows and such when theyre all full grown.

Just stick another 1/2 light units in the hood :) easy DIY job and you'll get much more viewing pleasure out of the tank.

your more than welcome there,,,,,,,i know theres quite a few cichlids that when young can look alot like another,,,,,
so what are you going to do?
i would keep him get rid of the africans and go for mainly central/south americans :good:

im completely at a loss as to what to do. i adore him, but i have always dreamt of having a frontosa and moori. i'm so stuck.....he seems to be fully content with the tank as is, and it is fully done up for african cichlids. perhaps i should wait it out a bit longer to see how well he copes in the tank before adding anything else??

i need another large tank set up so i could have both central/south americans and africans.

i've never attempted anything like that before.... what would i have to buy to be able to do it?? the light hood is fairly narrow, and covers the length of the tank. two equal lengthed bulbs (i think 34 inches each???).

yea if i had the space id have every fish possible

got a proven breeding pair of angels although fry went missing
with guppys and a candy stripe plec

Just head down to your LFS and explain your situation :) they'll point you in the direction of products similar to these:

Here

And will most likely explain exactly how to install it :)
