Well after finding some money from a few bits and bobs Ive got enough to order a 4x2x2 custom made tank :) There is a good offer on a tank makers at the moment for tank hood and stand for £335 which is perfect for me. Just need to get lights and adapters.

So after a bit of juggling recently my stocking for the 120 gallon should be

1 x Heros Severus
1 x Heros sp.Rotkiel (or similar strain)
1 x Female Nicaraguan
3 x Geophagus sp.Tocantis
3 x Guianacara Sphenazona
8 x Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish
5-8 x Annostomus Ternetzi - (I have 3 up for sale but no interest, I also really like them so undecided....)
3 x Hoplo Catfish - (Need to find specific species)
2 x Whiptail Catfish (Sturisoma Aurem)
1 x L75

Filtration will be 1 Fluval FX5 for now but I want to get an other one at sometime in the near future. I want to get a substrate other than play sand as the dead spots Ive been getting with the play sand at the moment I also want something a bit more natural and maybe darker. Any suggestions as to brands and or places to get them?

Also do you think I could up the numbers of the whip tail cats?

Let me know thanks

Congrats that should be fun. Will you keep the tank you have now? You should.

Excellent. All very exciting !

As for substrate ... personally I am going back to fine, smooth, dark, natural gravel for my new tank. Most natural gravels around these days are sharp, so be careful.

The smooth ones around are the Pettex dorset pea gravel, and Betta aquarium gravel. Both of which are available in small (around 3mm) sizes. But bear in mind that the Betta stuff comes extremely dirty and needs a million washes to get it clean enough for tank use. If you can get the Pettex stuff, that would be ideal.

That tank size sounds awsome! However, I like the sound of "VickiandKev"s 8x2(?)x2(2?) self build even more (for a huge schoal of juvenile/adult Clown Loaches)... OOOO, the possibilities! (not to mention the enormous weight of the water alone)

Great news :good: I would go with the smooth gravel too, I have normal "aquarium gravel" and found it rather sharp, I now have the smooth stuff and its great, lots easier to clean too.

Hi :)

I need the substrate to be very fine like sand but not play sand because of it going off so much. Its mainly because of my Geos and now my Guianacaras for both the need and the problem, well my other cichlids do it as well, but because they dig so much I get little piles of sand and the bottom goes off in like a day and a half and then it starts to spread and once it starts spreading its hard to keep up with it. So I want a larger type of sand that wont go off but small enough for my eartheaters to be able to sift it properly because if you go too big they can grab a mouthful and start to fire it through their gills and if the gravel is too big it gets stuck in the gill which is obviously bad.

I think I put too much sand in this tank though.

As far as when I get the tank, just got a few things to sort today and tomorrow to free up the money and then order it, but then after that you have to wait 6-8 weeks which isnt great and idealy I want it before August but I dont think thats going to happen.... :(

What do you think to the stocking?

Stocking sounds good to me. You can get really fine gravel, I had some off Minxy I dont know if it has a special name or anything the pieces are only a couple of mm.

Cool Ill have a look :) I think I know the one you mean actually.

Also one thing to add I forgot to the above stock list, theres an Uaru near me that I want to rescue disparately hes about 5-7 inches and in a 2 foot tank :( What do we think?

Wills

awww rescue him  , I would just love an Urau (or 3  ) but just dont have the room.

For the sand (or very fine gravel) take a look at aqua essentials, that is where I got my sand/gravel from.

Thanks for that link Minxy, they are so much cheaper than my LFS :D

Been out for a wander around fish shops again and went to see that Uaru again, I really want him :(

What do we think about adding an Uaru to that stock list above or would it mean dropping the second sev? If so Im pretty undecided on what to do :/

I think you need to book a break that allows you to drool at Aquajardin and/or Hamfist's tank for inspiration ;)

Decided to rehome that Guianacara I got the other week, shes causing major issues in my tank and wont let my Nic come out from behind the plants at all :( Just rang Fish inc in Sheff and looks like they will take her off me and give a bit of store credit, Im might trade her for an other female heros severus and take out some decor from this tank. Their severus look different to mine they are almost white and a bit laterally compressed :)

Talking to a member on here about getting their 4x2x2 in the next week or so probs next weekend so things are looking good now :good: Just need to take something to market to sell this weekend and im sorted me thinks :)
