Hi, I'm returning to fishkeeping after a break of around 20 years !
I have a fluval Roma 240 and am
In the process of buying another two :)

Anyway I was hoping that there would be someone willing to donate some mature filter media to kick start my system.
I am just outside Stirling and eould happily swap mature media with shiny new stuff.

Is there anyone relatively local that could help me out?

Cheers

Ross

Hi, here's the list of donors: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/150631-list-of-members-willing-to-donate-mature-filter-media-to-newbies/

Edit: happy to see people asking for media ^_^

Hi thanks for that, I see there is a mod near Edinburgh, but for some reason im not able to use the pm function.

When I used to keep fish I don't rember all this water testing. I never had many problems and successfully bred quite a few species. Have things changed so much in 20 years, or was I just an ignorant teenager?

I'm picking up another two tanks on Monday and these will be cycled properly with the fishless method.

The tank I have now came with a few fish, but the previous owner supplied brand new media for the fluval 305, the existing media was binned.
There are 3 corrys, three young clown loach and four red
claw crabs in there just now.
So I'm trying to help these we fellas out by getting hold of some hungry bacteria ASAP.
I currently have 1ppm ammonia and maybe around 2ppm
nitrite. I'll do a large water change today to help the parameters.

Thanks :).
I'm thinking of a community tank and making the other 240l a Malawi Chiclid tank and I'm considering making the 180L into a marine tank, although this is a little scary !

Click on their name, then you will see the profile page and there should be a button with an option to send a message or personal message.

Well.. things were always this complicated, all of us just used to be more ignorant. Today, at least I, put emphasis on a good life for the fish, not exposing them to any possible harm, and so on, as opposed to just survival and hope they breed. There were plenty of people who accidentally got it right before, and there are plenty who get it wrong now. The biggest difference is that we know more about it now and information is more readily available.

Hi kitty kat, thanks for the reply.
The member near Edinburgh is backtotropical, but there is no pm option on his profile page. Maybe it's because I'm a new member or more likely as I'm reading the forum with an app on my phone :S.

I have added him as a friend, but am still unable to contact him.

Try http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?app=members&module=messaging&section=send&do=form&fromMemberID=33584 , if that doesn't work, you probably can't PM him because you do not have enough posts, or something like that.

Or try posting in the support forum, "Board Announcements & Suggestions."..?
