Well i was hoping to get a 72*30*24 tank bought and put into my shed, however due to the cost of the few extra inches in width (getting on double the price!) i decided i'm going to build my own out of plywood and acrylic.
With building it myself im doing 72*30*30 1062litres/ 234 uk G or 281us G

Unfortuantely my shed was nakerd so this had to be fixed first.
First off was the roof was falling to pieces and it was freezing cold inside the shead.

So...

I've redone the roof from scratch
taken everything out of the shed, shelves etc
For the insulation ive got the whole shed lined with buble wrap, followed by loft insulation and then to keep it all tidy i've used 2mm plastic sheet to cover that! so it's kinda like 3 layers of insulation. The only bit not insulated is the floor which will be lined with thick cardboard and then covered over with lino or whatevr you call it!

Total cost so far £240 and thats with my dad doing most of the work, i just stand their giving him tools and stuff when he asks for them lol

Below is the shed view from one side, bit messy as we've only totally finsihed of the shed earlier today, it's all white! very bright in there.

Below is a picture of the RO Unit installed into the shed, this will make it less messy for adding water into the tank. I also have a tap just outside the shed for normal water.

Here's some of the inhabitants for the new tank , currently in my 100g

Retic Ray on the side of the glass, shows the guy's mouth and claspers

Retic rays spike just about visible

looks soo small even in my tank!

Polypterus Weeksii , only seems to come out when im taking pictures! Camera Hogg!

Soo Far my rougthly planned stocking is the following:

Polypterus Lapredei x3
Polypterus Weeksii
Polypterus Ornatipinnis
2 Marbled Motoro Rays , one male and one female (these should be coming shortly and going into my 100g to grow out a little)
Retic Ray hopefully will be ok with the motoro's for a wile
Asian Arowana, will take T1karmann's advise and go with a Red tail golden
Zebra Shovelnose catfish
Tire track eel once i've got it feeding properly (currently only hand feeds on worms and prawns but wont touch them otherwise)
Spotted or Florida Gar although this depends what size i can get them at.
Once my Oscar get's bigger that'll go in there.

The rays will be getting swapped over for Scobina Rays once they're avaialble.
The Oscar may get left in the 100G and i might get Dat's in the bigger tank.

I've currently got all the Plywood for the tank build, using 20mm marine grade plywood for the back sides and underneath, on the top of the tank i'll probs going to use 10mm ply for frame and then just have some sliders on top. I'll grab pictures of this when my dad brings it to my house. All the wood has been cut to size and cost zilch :)

For the viewing panel i'm using 12mm Acrylic, going to be 68*25" this shouldnt cost much more than £100

Stands Also been built using angle bar , also free:) <-- pics will come along next week sometime.

for filteration i am going to be making a sump, i'm going to most likely go with something like 60"L*20"W*15"H with 3 media compartments and one for the heaters and pump to go into, i already a pump which pumps 5500lph which should be enough for now.

My Parents have gone away until next wednesday so i expect some more progress and pics after then:)

Wow that sounds cool :) cant believe how cheap its been so far to insulate! I thought it would be much more expensive to get to that stage! Hoping to do a fish house at some point my self now, never thought I would go down that route but starting to want to do it for various reasons :)

Good luck will be watching close!

It's about knowing the right people:) Most of the cost went on fixing the shed, the insulation part of it was about £30 for the plastic,£10 for screws and caps, something like £8 for loft insulation and the buble wrap was free :)

Very nice.. once again something i would like to do but never get rounbd to doing it! :hyper:

Stand Complete , will probs paint it tomorrow or sat

Plywood for the tank has also been dropped of at my house, already painted Blue , how handy :)

Stands now been painted, went with green paint as i had some already :)

Also got two new small rays that are going to be growing out in the 4x2x2 for a few months ,
Went with Marbled Motoro rays, got one male and one female. only tiny at around 4-5 inch.

Female Marbled Motoro Ray :

Male Marbled Motoro :

As you can see some Disc damage but they should grow back with some good water changes:) Took me a bit to tell which was male and female as they have been on the glass yet but i noticed some tiny claspers on one :)

Havent seen them eat yet but don't expect to really for a few days while they settle in.

looking good, they look a bit thin but hopefully should start eating soon!
i'll look forward to them growing a bit and seeing the marbling pattern come through, curious what kind of pattern they will have!
how are they with the retic?

They're the same size as the retic, they're all in seperate areas of the tank atm. Unsociable buggers lol ! Yeh i thought they looked a little thin but hopefully they'll eat :)

The main part of the tank is now built :)

Imageshack has changed the orientation of some of my pics:(

Struggling to get acrylic cheap so will probs end up going with glass. The thin plastic in the tank is white but can easily be painted:) think i'll go with blue.

That is looking nice! Id just keep it white once it starts to get a natural coating on of stuff I reckon it will look awesome :)

what size is the tank ?

what took a bit out of the ray ?

i would insulate the window even cover it up

as for heating the shed i started off with a green house fan heater which was costing big money to run the tank and the rest of the house electrics was £50 per week

i have now found that the cheapest way to heat the shed is a electric oil filled radiator the whole house with tank and shed is £30 per week before the shed and new tank were set up it was £25 per week for the whole house and the old tank running so only 5 per week more now which i think is good

The tank is around 72x30x30,
The ray came like that, it's not looking so bad now and eating well so hopefully should clear up.
My dad was on about an oil heater but the shed's really warm with the amount of insulation. Not sure how to insulate a window... It's never opened so hopefully wont be leaking to much heat.
