Hi my sump is ready for collection friday, but at the moment its just a 15'x12'x12' tank and i want to put the skimmer and heater in for now, just to get them out of the display tank.

i'm extremly limited on cupboard space under the tank and this is the best i can do. in the future i do have the option of putting another one of these tanks on the other side of the stand.

it will be connected to a 200ltr main tank and i just want a few options and possible ideas if i need to do anything to the tank before it becomes a sump.

cheers guys :good:

This is my current plan,

I know that the refugium is supposed to 10% but without all the pieces to put in the sump i hav'nt got anything yet. and the new skimmer still not arrived yet either.

anyway partition 1 contains the gravity flow in, the filter floss and LR pieces and the skimmer.
Partition 2 is the Refugium
saparating partition 2 and 3 is a bubble trap
Partition 3 is for the return pump

All the volumes

Display 175 ltrs 38.5 gal
Sump 31.46 ltrs 6.92 gal
Refugium 15.73 ltrs 3.46 gal this is 8.99% of the display tank volume

What do you think.

Sorry can't get the photo of the plan on, somethings wrong....

Just thought of something else. Not many people do but I would consider putting some course sponge around your return pump (I made a box out of sponge that my return pump sits in. This needs to be cleaned regularly but it does two things.

1) Stops the pump vibrating against the tank (which a lot of return pumps will do).

2) Adds mechanical filtration to the tank and stops your return pump getting clogged. If you use cheato in your 'fuge (which most people do) this has a habit of being able to get through most baffle designs and into the return pump. The sponge will stop this happening.

well got the tank today, perfect fit, still waiting for the bloody skimmer and power heads. any longer and i'm going to have to cancel my order.

got the pump for the sump - A 2100ltr/h bermuda pump seems good enough, any bigger and i might have problems with the gravity flow, built the overflow with 22mm pipe and that was too small so had to build another one 32mm thick, tested and it matches the pump well. was very happy untill i could not find my glass cutter for the baffles to put in the sump.

Just thought i'd put it all in here for prosperity. lol
