I was going to create a mountain river setup with waterfall for some hillstream Loaches, but now I can't because my fighters fin seems to becoming tatty and one has fallen off in my community tank setup. I suspect its one of the clown loaches!! and there is also a strong current in that tank. So my next option is a SouthEast Asian Swamp setup, which includes bamboo canes. It is a very planted tank and I am unfamilar with planted tanks as I took the easy option in my community tank and used fakeys. Is anyone familar with this type of tank setup? Has anyone done something similar? Whats the key to a succesful planted tank? Will I definatly need a CO2 machine? Does nayone else use bamboo canes?? All help is greatly appreciated!!!!

you could try using a DIY co2(google that to find out how to make one) , where you dont have ot invest in a pressurized system which cost quite alot.
Not sure about plants, but id try java moss and java fern, as they are among hte hardiest aquarium plants.
With those 2 plants you dont need co2 however, decent lighting is needed though.
