New Plant In Tank

Juts purchased a hornwort plant
I know some say its messy, but will see how it goes

Real question is do live plants consume ammonia, nitrite or nitrates
I have read so many different stories about this

basically, do live plants help a tank, and if so, how? By reducing ammonia, nitrites or nitrates, or all?

I am 100% sure that plants are good for a fishtank. They can reduce ammonia AND Nitrates. Haven't seen anything about Nitrites.
