I used to paint all the time and used to make a decent living from it but with one thing and another Ive not picked up a brush since well before my daughter Mirren was born and that was 9 months ago.

I decided to get back into and and do a painting for my cousin, Id promiced her I would over a year ago when she moved in with her boyfriend as a flat warming but just never got round to it so I thought Id make it my first project.

Its an abstract of course but the landscape is the silouette of the lighthouse on south sheilds beach, thats where she lives.

but after all that painting it was time for me and Mirren to have a snooze on the sofa...

ha ha ace, do you work on commission ever? i'm probably just dreaming but i'd love something like that in my house :D

Thats what I used to for a living.

People love to have original paintings, problem is alot of painters ask stupid money for their work....the art world pi$$es me off a bit but I paint what i like and also for other people but I just charge a realistic price.

If a painting takes 3 hours like this one did I charge £40, thats £10 for the canvas and paint and £10 a hour for work, that way I get to make money from something I enjoy and people get the painting they want and a great conversation piece at an affordable price.

No arty farty rubbish, just good business sense and everybody is happy!

thats really quite reasonable!!

i love having 'real' artwork in my house, my grandma was an artist an I've a few of her originals up and a painting my big sister did for me (everyone in my family is artistic except me), we're decorating the bedroom at some point in the next couple of months and I'd really like something for there. would you mind if I pm'd you when we're done and asked you to do something for me? Have you any more pics of your work.... no guarantee's or anything, have to speak to the fella etc etc but i'm really impressed with that, it's exactly the sort of thing I'd want! :D

No problem atall, my e-mail is delamartworks@hotmail.com and here are a few of my other works.

This was a cdommission I did and the guy tried to haggle the price down once it was done, he was just a chancer thinking Id sell it cheaper rather than not atall...little did he know it matches our bedroom perfectly, no deal chump!

This is the rough I did before doing the painting for my cousin, I like to get an idea of what Im going to do before each painting, and if its a commission its a good way of giving the customer and idea of what it will look like albiet a rough one. Good thing is i can mount the roughs and sell them for £20 or so.

The purple mountain picture seems to have been really popular but never sold, its A1 size (33" x 23" I think)

Ive not really advertised it properly I suppose.

wow awesome! :hyper: Love the abstracts, the one of you guys on the sofa - and that pencil sketch is just :S (madness - it's so good).
And your prices are very reasonable!

I love "real" art - not just prints. But know diddly squat about art. I just like pretty pictures!

I have quite a few bits and bobs I've collected over the world - mostly abstract / surreal / symboli (Dali type).

Your pencil drawing is so real! That is some real talent there.

I wish I could draw anything but I never could, and Dylan can't either, he can't even draw a stick man yet.

Hope your little girl inherits drawing and painting well.

Thankyou, I believe that art should be affordable to everyone and an original painting is such a lovely thing to have, something you stop and look at everytime you pass it and a great talking point when friends are up.

When I did commission work it was often place that were special to that person so its painted 'for you' kinda thing, its just makes it more special and if its a price people can afford then its a small price to pay I think.

Mirren will be painting before long, her hobbies just now are waving at everyone and anything, slapping the cat on the head like a basketball and picking other peoples noses but once that passes...

Well a girls gotta have her fun
Have you done any portraits or paintings of Mirren yet?

Thats going to be my BIG project, I know the exact painting Im doing but I want it to be my 'sunflowers' if you will. I have a contract to do some paintings for an big office so I'll wait till thats out the way and make a start.

I did start a big mural on the wall of her bedroom which was going to be an underwater scene (since Mirren means 'from the sea') but after spending a whole weekend blending the paint and creating waves across the top (emullsion does blend quite so well as oils!) Mirren decided she loves butterflies so...thats that painted over!

...typical woman!
