These Chinese algea eaters can become a nuisance round goldfish when they grow up.... they're always trying to suck off the slime from GF bodies.... (I've had some around 5 inches)

Hate to be the one to give you the bad news Scolio, but it looks awfully like a common plec to me, your going to need a bigger tank...

This is what my two look like, this was their 300L tank...

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

Just my two pence on the plec front:

You can keep them in the smaller tank until they start to out grow it, but I'd say it's risky. They might not grow as much or as quickly, and you might not realise they need a new tank because their growth might get stunted. You also need to make SURE you can give them a larger tank if you are going to keep them, as big plecs are much harder to rehome than smaller ones.

If your plec doesn't get the be massive when it is fully grown (but isn't dwarfed at all), you might be able to get away with 200l. Some care-sheets state 200l as MINIMUM tank size for an adult, but that's for a small one. More reasonable recommedations are upwards of 300l and even for a small adult (say, 1 foot) it'll be happiest in a 4 ft + tank.

It'd be best to make sure you can upgrade your tank if you need to before you decide to keep him.

Hope you enjoy the forum!
