New In Fish Hobby. Help?

Does any of you have a blackberry? So I can communicate through BBM, pictures also on BBM.. Apparently the pictures cannot be posted on forum, file size to large etc. The other option whould be e-mail. I did the water change, fresh! Fish smilin! But need bacteria urgently. What can I do about food falling inbetween rocks, and fish never able to access that food?

If you save the pic to your desktop, then upload in the attatchment option under this reply box it will upload x ;)

Desktop.. :) I don't have adsl, I am doing all this from my cell phone. But ill see/try do it some way related to how you explained.

two options - where does your phone store pictures - navigate there when it asks you to browse to it 2) upload the picture to photobucket and paste a link.

I'm sure you'll understand if few people volunteer a number to someone they've only just "met" on the forum :) :)

In terms of the bacteria I'm afraid you;re just going to have to wait for them to catch up unless you can find mature media.

Food between rocks - that's not great, mind you with a little re-arrangement you'll be surprised where fish can get to...

Well, that explains your putrid smell....

You'll need to feed much less, so that it doesn't have a chance to fall down that far (tricky with a plec, I know, but he should be getting algae wafers and food of his own), syphon out any left overs as soon as possible, and look at changing (or adding to) your substrate for something finer, so there are less gaps for the food to be able to fall into.

A fish's stomach is only about the size of it's eye, so they really don't need much food at all.

Agree with fluttermoth - if you have only have had the fish 2 days and the tank is new and uncycled then the need the fish will have for fresh water will be quite urgent and, as said, a large 60, 75% or so water change, using a gravel siphon and replacing the water with tap water that has been treated with conditioner and roughly temperature matched will be needed. Also pretty urgent will be a good liquid-reagent based test kit to measure (typical kits) ammonia, nitrite(NO2), nitrate(NO3) and pH. The fish you are describing is also probably not a cold-water fish so some attention may need to be paid to the needed temperature and possibly some heating.

Thanks again to all the replies. My tank is super clean, fishies smilin, no putrid smell and I am digging this hobby!! Oh, it is a plec. I would recomend fluttermoths advice to any new starters.. That guy knows a lot and gives good advice, as for the other replies, you guys also helped me.
