I joined because my Google searches most often brought me here. I fell into the hobby through aquaponics. I wanted to construct a small indoor system (CHOP2) in order to learn and teach aquaponics before starting a big outdoor system in the greenhouse and pond...
In my indoor system, my partner and I have a 45 gallon tank. It has to be a little overstocked to feed the vegetables and herbs in the grow bed and the plants have to be big enough to clean up the nitrates. We added the fish carefully and slowly as the plants grew.
We have 7 black skirt tetras, 10 silvertip tetras, 4 pepper corydoras, 5 panda corydoras, 1 green bushynose pleco, 11 harlequin rasbora's, and one bamboo shrimp (We had more, but a PH mishap killed them. RIP, shrimp. I'm sorry.) All is well in there. They seem to have plenty of room.
We got a 15 gallon column aquarium we used as quarantine tank as we added to the aquaponics system. Last night, we rearranged the tank and welcomed 3 pea puffers to the column! They will be the only residents there.
We also got a 20 gallon long aquarium from Craigslist where we are breeding little snails for the puffers (sorry snails) and we will soon breed little shrimp (not for food, just for enjoyment.) [emoji4]
And that's it! I look forward to learning more here!
