New Heater Smells Like Fire

I've just bought a new 25 watt heater for my betta tank and as soon as I brought it out of the packaging there is a very strong odor of a fire like smell.


im a bit nervous to use it now. Has anyone else noticed this before? Should I return it and have it exchanged?

If your worried, put it in a bowl of water then turn it on, that way you wont hurt any fish if it is faulty.

when you took it out, iam guessing at this point it was not plugged in
Most new thing's have a newness smell, maybe the plastic it was wrapped in smell's a little bit
