Here's Joe, my new giant Plakat male. Despite his pugnaceous looks and the PK reputation, he is a complete softy.
Much, much bulkier than a standard Betta. I'd say at least twice the standard weight. Don't know if he's stopped growing yet, but he's at least 3" already. From what I've read, these things can get up to 4", in the very largest specimens. This is, of course, including their short fins.

Joe is currently living very, very happily in my 80 gallon community tank, with a large angel (also a big softy), a load of tetras, some gobies and some catfish.

What is the standard Plakat reputation?

The way I understand it is that the "Plakat" strains are the shorter finned variants which have been specifically bred for fighting, and therefore size, strength and aggressive tendencies have been encouraged in the bloodline.
