Little dilema... Yesterday I posted that I had 2 preg females in a seperated tank waiting for fry to drop (1 platy, 1 sword) Well the sword dropped this morning (YAY!) Now, heres the prob. I have my fry tank divided - 4 week old fry on one side, 2 preg moms on the other. 5 fry snuck to the other side and the preg fish has left them alone, so I left them there. Mom sword dropped so I put her back in the main tank. Preg platy leaves babies alone. 4 WEEK OLD FRY STALKING AND ATTACKING newborn fry! Since the preg platy is leaving the 1 month fry alone, I put her on the side with the older fry but the newborns are slipping through the sides of the divider and getting attacked - what can I do? I have no other tanks. Also, why would the older fry attack the babies when the adult isn't? Here are some pics of the fry - the orange are the 1 month fry and the white/(clear) are the fry born today - not too much size difference...

Congrats on your new babies!!! :hyper:

I don't know why the older ones are attacking the smaller ones. That is a good question

2 of the older fry slipped by the divider so I tried to scoop up as many babies as I could and put them in the breeder trap. I can see at least 8-10 more at the bottom but theres so much hornwart in there I can't catch them so I hope they can hide until later when I can get the the plants out and scoop up the rest into the trap. Believe it or not the older fry are hovering under the trap trying to get at the newborns!

Your older fry might be big enough to survive in the main tank away from the new fry, I know at 4 weeks I can release mine with no casualties into the community tank

If you have plenty of hornwort, there is no reason to fear for the fry. They will quickly learn to seek shelter in the hornwort although some of them will be too slow learning to hide and will be lost.
