New Fish

The Internet has plenty of information on this fish, really the main thing you need to know is you've bought a fish that will rapidly outgrow and take over your tank, which I'm sure we established in other posts about your stocking was already really overstocked with fish that can grow huge, like clown loaches etc. They also create a mammoth amount of mess and waste your filter will not cope with.

The best thing will be to return it, you can't house it properly in your size tank and it isn't fair on the fish or the others in the tank.

basically if you don't have a 6ft x 2ft tank then your best to swap him sooner rather than later they grow very quickly

Sadly for an adult yes the link says 18" adult but i personally have seen bigger! more like 24"! which IMO *and most in the plec section* a 6x2 is minimum for

Yes it's too big for a 5 ft tank, it won't stay tiny for long at all, can't emphasise that enough.

Please start researching before you buy fish! Is this stocking in your profile still accurate?

Soybean is right - you (and by you I don't mean only you, I mean everyone) really need to research fish before buying them. We hear many sob stories around here of people bringing home fish because they felt sorry for them, but it's not a good idea. I know it can be hard sometimes, but you cannot buy fish on the basis that you feel sorry for them. If the fish is in poor conditions, you are encouraging the shop to carry on like that by giving them business. Also, in buying the fish, you are taking responsibility for its well being, so don't buy it unless you know exactly what it needs and you are confident that you can provide that. I morally cannot take on a fish that I can't properly provide for.

The plec will need a tank at least 6ft x 2 ft, so unless you know you're likely to go this big, there isn't much point keeping it.

Are you just after tank cleaning? The bristlenoses you already have will do that.

It will need a lot of feeding, uproot any plants you've got...they're not easy to keep at that size. You will often find people keep them on their own in a huge tank with mega filtration, they're not community fish once they start growing.

Tank cleaning is a nice added bonus from any fish, but if you're buying fish solely for that purpose because your tank is that bad, theres usually something bad going on in your tank that a fish isn't going to solve.
