anyone else with the gold form denison barbs???

the gold forms were apparently a non dominant wild color variation, that were line bred, and they are pretty unstable in form, as they are often blind, and their color pattern can change…

this is an older picture of my gold form, next to a normal denison…

and this is one 6 months later, beginning a color change…

often as they age, they revert back to the normal coloring… mine has started getting patches of the bronze coloring on the body, on mine, these patches are translucent, and with the yellow / gold color under them, it shimmers in the light like gold leaf… this effect is difficult to capture with a camera, but I’ll keep trying… I don’t know how long this color effect will last , but it’s kind of interesting…

I have had a few killies where some of the young appear xanthic/goldish for a few months, but as they age they develop normal colouration. I find this a lot with my Chromaphyosemion poliaki. I wonder if it's a similar process.

I purchased a couple of the gold variation that looked just a little better than the one above.^^
Over time [ only 6 months or so] 2 have looked completely normal color not gold and are now looking gold.
I still have one that has complete black stripe and looks like the one above but I have read [ who knows where?] that this is a characteristic of fish farm line breeding and that they can eventually go all gold. Feeding and water play a part I believe.
My two that look gold still part of a very faint black line but it is fading.
When the golds are colored up properly, they are gorgeous fish.
Hoping #3 turns as well as the other 2 and they stay gold but who really knows.

So what does this Denison of yours look like now.

I lost it 3-4 months ago, but it remained bright orange “gold” the whole time I had it

This is what my guy looks like now.

The two golds looked like him just 2 months ago, and looked like the regular Denison do before that.
You can still see the black stripe on the gold in the front.
Both the golds are becoming 'cleaner' looking every day.

Kind of funny but discus breeders say that the fish will pick a mate that looks like they do when kept with mixed colors.
This mess of a Denison spends 95% of its time with the two golds.
