Had my 5ft tank leak last weekend,so fish and water have been in a wheely bin in my dining room all week.I finally got it sealed and added the water ,fish and rocks on Friday. So after all this trouble i thought i would treat myself.I went out on Sunday and bought a wild caught pair of Melanochromis Johannii and a wild pair of Pseudotropheus Elongatus Usisya.Lovely fish.

Oh man, I would've let you have my johannis

Sorry to be on the negative side but you will need some more females of both, For some reason shops sell fish as pairs but there not pairing fish.

You might have to brush up on your venting skills for the elongatus females they are very hard to sex as females can colour up almost as much as males.

Can i ask where you get your wild caught from

I have a few pairs of fish in the tank and they are doing fine,i know ideally thy should be in groups but i keepan eye on them and if the male is stressing out the female i will get some more females.I got my fish from a shop in Glasgow.Yes the elongatus do look similar, the male is more yellow coming through the dark, with lilac/purple stripes on his forehead and the female is dark brown/black coming through the yellow.I don`t know anything about venting so it`s all down to trust.Iv`e got a book on Malawi`s so i try and check on that.

Might try it if i can catch the fish .It`s quite difficult in a 5ft tank with 80kg of rock

Here is a pic of the male.I will try and get a better one.I need another light tube and I`m still messing about with the camera
