new filter

right i just got a new filter for my 3 1/2 foot tank. not convinced old filter is doing its job properly anyway how long will it take for good bateria to build up in new filter. i have still got the old 1 in there running so i don't lose any of the goodness out of it

now glad i got this filter cos another 1 of my fish just got stuck behind the old filter casing only didn't save this 1. can't wait to take out that filter casing in case anyone wondered its a juwel tank. don't seen to matter wot i do the sodding case moves . am now tempted to take it out now & just leave media in tank for bateria till new filter has been running a couple of weeks

What type of filter is the new one?

I would be tempted if its a fluval or something similar to just put some of the juwel pad inside the new one. Leaving the pads just in the tank, the bacteria may start to die off as they won't be getting so much water flow over them. Personally i would run them both for at least 2 weeks if possible.

it is a fluval 3+ yeah think i will leave them running for a couple of weeks, think i will just make the juwel casing secure again. its moved before & 1 of my cories got stuck but saw him just in time & he was fine. but have been in & out of the tank a lot because of doing water changes & blowing my heater up so maybe just need to sort it again for now
