New External New Set Up, No Ammonia

so i set up the external filter for the 23g just to make sure it was working and it does :good:

but i ordered some ammonia online from boots to be picked up and its not available till thursday should i leave the external running till then?

I used tank water from another tank and poured into the new one since i was giving it a water change anyway thought it couldnt do any harm.

Nothing will happen either way except maybe consuming a little bit of electricity. Otherwise, you aren't going to help your cycle in any way, nor hurt it.

the only benifit i can see is the water will keep moving ie not begoming stagnent?

I would wait for your h/h ammonia. If your water is cloudy from your new gravel i would leave your filter on to help clear it.

Its just an empty tank atm no gravel, nothing

I don't think that I would even add fish food, to be honest. Unless you want to do some extensive accurate measuring, it is tough to know exactly how much food will break down into how much ammonia. And, food doesn't break down into just ammonia -- there will be other stuff too that is normally going through a fish's digestive tract, not just breaking down in the tank. This is the kind of stuff that leads to algae blooms and cloudy water. I know it is hard to wait, but in the end your fish will be much happier and healthier if you can just be patient.
