Hi all,

Just bought a new external filter,

Set it all up and its running - slowly.

The pipes are restricting flow where they have been folded into the packaging (like a kink in a hose pipe), the plastic is quite hard so I can open it up with my fingers but it just goes back to how it was when I let go.

About 3 kinks on the inflow and 3 in the outflow, really hampering flow rate!

Will these pipes "un-kink" eventually by themselves, with the heat and pressure from the water? Or does it need to be done manually? and if so, How?

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks :)

Are these pipe silicone hoses? If so if you get a large bucket of really hot water and then place them in for like 30 seconds then remove them sometimes they automatically go back to their normal shape or you can just shape it yourself.

I have Silicone hoses from my Fluval 205 to the intake and outtake at which point it goes to the ribbed hosing, the only reason is that the silicone hosing bends and closes it up like you've described whilst trying to bend into the tank.

You might want to try making the hoses the "right" length for your arrangement. I had that problem with a Rena XP series filter until I cut the hoses to the right length, as described in the filter literature. Once I did that, the filter started working flawlessly.

The pipes were really hard plastic...
but that was the least of my problems!
Going to start a new topic to warn people of the dangers of buying an interpet external filter!
