New Discus!

Ok I'll just stick with what I have then, and the bloodworms. The discus doesn't seem to like the flakes that much though... she will simply take it in her mouth, then spit it out, take it in, then spit it out again. Any explanation?

I feed my Discus right now on mainly frozen Bloodworms and Tetra Color bits until I get the Beef Heart made. They have no problem eating that but I have been feeding them regular flakes so they will get used to them when I sell them to the LFS. They spit them out at first but they will get used to them.

hey, do a %50 water change everyday with warm(84-86f), airated aged water and it should be find but without any friends he will get stressed quickly, they are shoaling fish and this stress can lead to death, id get 3 more discus to fit in the tank

HTH

I have realized that discus seem to have difficulty swallowing larger pieces of food... they eat it then spit it out to break it into smaller pieces that they can handle. Mine seems to readily accept the frozen brine shrimp, but is rather reluctant about the shrimp pellets and flakes.

Yes they will always accept frozen / live foods alot better than they will flake / pellet. That dosnt mean they wont accept flakes / pellets but it will take them awhile to get used to.
