I just bought a healthy new Betta fish. He is multiple colors (white, pink, purple, blue, red) and is pretty happy with his new home. I used tap water for his bowl, but used a water conditioner for safety. He is swimming around in his bowl, checking out everything around him. He was really finicky and hyper in the car, but now he seems more calm. I fed him, and he happily ate one Red Grub out of the two I gave him. I think he's saving the other one. The bowl is decorated with bright green gravel, but I'm hoping to get a plant soon. His bowl will have to be cleaned either Tuesday or Wensday, though Toby (my red Betta Fish) needs his bowl cleaned tomorrow. His is decorated with shiny white pebbles. And, I named the new Betta Sushi. :fun:

I am glad to say that both of them are happy and heathy (so it seems). I used to think I was overfeeding Toby, but he was smart. If I gave him too much food, he wouldn't eat anymore then he knew he should have. He poops (yes, I can see it laying at the bottle of the bowl) so that means no constipation!

Toby is the type of Betta that craves attention. Though he doesn't let it when you touch him, he will stare at you and blow bubbles until you talk to him or run your finger along his bowl. He is always occupied with things outside the water, like me, objects, and my cat.

Sushi, on the other hand, is pretty content swimming about doing nothing in particular. He hates it when you shake his bowl around, or run your finger along the glass (though I do it anyway  ). He doesn't seem to be too interested with objects outside teh water, but enjoys swishing around. If he gets bored, I entertain him by talking to him, or putting a mirror against his bowl.

I love both my Betta's.

Hav any of you gotten new Betta's lately? Talk about them here! Have your have particular personalites? Do they have food favourites?

I think Sushi is a cute name LOL ;)

Post a pic. I want to see him...he sounds really pretty!

Also, Bettas like still water...so that's why he doesn't like when you shake the bowl. You might not want to do that in general

I just got my Betta last week (have had many Bettas in the past; but none in 9 years). He is a spaz. Likes to flare and lunge at me :)

He likes his brine shrimp a whole lot

:) Thanks for posting.

I will defiently try and upload a picture later. I still don't know if he's camera shy or not. Is using flash reccomended when taking pictures of Bettas?

I don't see why you couldn't use the flash. As long as you don't keep taking pics every 2 seconds. I used the flash and Alpha didn't seem to mind it

aw he sounds like a cutie  i got a new betta on thursday theres a topic on him a bit further down the page

I will uplaod later. The site says the pictures are too big. :( Awww...it'll take me awhile to get the pictures smaller.

Sushi! (Better pic later ;))

Toby! He looks orange in this picture because of dumb glare, but he's red. Again, I'll take better pictures later.

I'm not sure how big....I think it's a quarter gallon bowl. I know I know....they deserve bigger but my parents won't allow me to buy bigger bowls/tanks. They seem perfectly happy in the bowls they are in, and if they're happy I'm happy!

Yeah....I know. I told this to my parents and they said, "No! You're not getting a bigger tank. They are fine in the bowls they are in." I must agree though, that they are happy. Of course, they would be much happier in a larger tank I know.

Maybe for future Betta's I'll convince my parents into letting me get a bigger tank.

Woof, Bettagirl. That's treading some dangerous ground. :) 1/4 gallon bowls build up ammonia in about two days, if you're feeding him regularily. You would need to completely WC your fish every two days to keep them healthy, and their happiness would indeed suffer due to the stress of being removed every two days and tossed into possibly different temp. water, etc etc.
A 1 gallon wouldn't take up much more room than a 1/4 gallon, and they'd be so much happier. And you'd only have to change the water once every 5 days instead of every two.. :)
Also, I'm concerned that you wouldn't be able to heat those little bowls, and their temps could be low, or fluctuating.. Do you have them on heating pads or something similiar..?
We would really like for both you and your bettas to be happy as well, but if they die, due to ammonia poisoning or the stress of low water temp leaving them open to illness and parasites, neither of you would be very happy.. :)
