Well I have done it, I have ordered my first betta.

Here is a sneek preview, will be getting him end of next week, cant wait!
Here is the website piccy:

Will be trying my first live plants with him.

Couple of Q's for his arrival.

1. Plan for feeding, most likely will need to get some proper betta food, at the moment have tropical flakes, have blood worm as a treat midweek I thought and a deshelled pea on Sundays. (How do you prepare the peas, don't eat personally lol!).

2. Water changes, when doing these for this type of fish is it best to take them out the tank while changing and vacuuming the water in a large glass/vase or are they ok in the tank (think may have asked before but couldn't find the link).

Anyways very excited :)

Feeding, bettas need pellets. Hikari Gold is the best :good:
Bloodworm, daphnia, brine shrimp anything for a treat a few times a week.

Water changes, best done with the fish in(depending on size of tank obviously, if there's not going to be enough water left then take him out). More stress catching him than doing a water change with him in!

:fish: :fish: Whats your tank size. I leave mine in the tank, they try and help by following the syphon tube lol.

That is one handsome fish!!!!!

It is a 3gallon for now, have tubing for my "create-your-own' siphon so will try this first. Substrate sand, and some potted easy plants, and if smooth enough a cocnut cave.

Thanks on the pea front, lol, not keen on them myself! Also for food have Brine Shrimp Flake.

I see coconut caves in the reptile section, do they need any preparation or do you just put them in your tank?

Tank sounds good :good:
Been lookin for some coconut caves myself, no were appears to have them
Id just give it a good wash then put it in the tank.

Pretty sure I saw some at my quite local Southern Aquatics. Think they actually had fake looking ones! If not that will see what else they have and as last resort some sort of pot :)

p.s. 78-80F is best temp? What is that in degrees, off to find out!

He is amazing, I am so jealous!
Make your own coconut cave - saw a coconut in half, scrape out the flesh inside - usually easier after boiling for some time! Sand the outside to get rid of the hairs on the outside. Boil a bit more to remove some of the tannins. Then cut a door shape or whatever in it. I find a husband is useful for the cutting bits cos I am too lazy. :)

hmmmm... I do have a partner who is good with a scapel and delicate work (paints those warhammer models etc) hmmmm..twinkle in eye ;)
