Hello everyone, I'm new here, but I hope someone can give me some advice.

For a long time now I have been looking into getting pet fish, particularly the catfish type. I know they require a large tank, and brackish water, so I bought a 75gallon tank.

I just set up my tank today.. and was wondering if I did everything right..

After adding the water and getting the filtration going, I added Prime, AquaSafe (makes tapwater safe), and TopFin Conditioning Salt.. all the amounts the directions on the bottle said to add for my size tank.. Now questions, was I supposed to add all of that at once? And the conditioning salt, will that make the water brackish? or do I need to add a totally different type of salt?

I plan on getting Columbian sharks, and I know they are schooling fish, and need brackish water.. what I do not know however is the kinds of tank mates I can put in with them...

any advice on what I should/shouldn't do and water conditions would be greatly appreciated :)

from what iv read columbian sharks are really difficult to keep, im not entirely sure but i think they need to be kept in fresh water as juviniles then acclimatized to brackish and then kept in almost marine conditions when there mature, so ud need salt water testing aquiptment as for tank mates theyd need to be big enough to not be eaten and able to live in salt, maybe mollies would be ok.

personally id have a re-think theres loads of great catfish out there, ud proberly be able to find some that look simular but are much easier to care for.

I chose columbians because out of all of the catfish I've read about, they seem the most like "wild" catfish. And that is what I want, a catfish tank. Also, in my area, besides bala sharks and pictus cats, they are about the only type available without making an online purchase.
