Well today my lovely, amazing (she might read this) wife said that I could order a 5x2x2 tank for my expanding cichlid family (I do love her, really I do !!).

Currently in my 90 gallon (4x2x1.5) are 2(and a half) sevs, 3 x Geo. surinamensis and 2 x Acarichthys heckelii (along with a bristlenose, a couple of brochis and a smattering of tetras .... oh, and a couple of oto's).
They are all smallish at the moment and space is no problem but I love this particular community and I want to be able to house them into adulthood for many years to come. THe sevs in particular are expanding at a frightening rate !

So anyway, the deal with my good lady is struck and a call to ND Aquatics will be made in the morning. I'm excited, but dreading the big changeover. It's going to be a bit of a nightmare.

Reckon I'm going to need an upgrade in filtration too. Currently I'm running Eheim 2217 & 2215's on my 90 gallon. Thinking of maybe adding a further 2217 for the new tank.

Would appreciate any thoughts on filtration. I thought about keeping my 2217 and replacing the 2215 with an FX5 but thats an extra £150 (and for an Eheim snob like me that also means running non-Eheim filters), when just buying another 2217 will only set me back another £80 or so.

A sump is another idea but I'm nervous about that as I have no experience of sump filtration.

Overall, I'm thrilled that Honey, Hetty and Edwin (he's the half), my beloved Sevs, willl be getting a suitable home to keep them into their old age.

Blimey, 500 litres to play with. I can almost go snorkelling in there with them !!

I am a blessed man.

Very nice, yeah upgrade the 2215 to a 2217 and you should be good to go. I run 2x 2217's on my 5fter and its plenty and Im heavily stocked. If you can when you set it up, use as much as possible 30% say, then just top up with tap water and your good to go.

Lucky. That is very exciting. When I got my 5ft 100 gal I was supper happy I know the feeling. The severums are worth the big tank. Only problem with a big tank is when you get use to it you think this is not big enough Haha .

Yeah moving tanks and setting up is a pain but well worth the work in the end. Good luck start looking for a awesome gift for your wife to thank her. ;)

Congratulations. I just love setting up tanks. Never had a brand new tank (doubt I ever will lol) hubby picked me another one up last night, he got back here at 9pm by 11.30 the tank had been cleaned up, set up and filled with water lol, by this afternoon it will have mature media in it and hopefully a very special house guest arrives tomorrow :hyper:

Agreed with minx...sounds good...cant intrest you in my 5/2/2 :shifty:

Maybe. PM sent.

That is the truth ! I thought my 300 litre was enormous when I bought it in january. I swear it has shrunk a little bit every week since then.

Sounds interesting. Details ??

Its a Juwel 260 vision in black

Vinny the severum is comming to live with me and my mad lot, the 260 is only his temporary home for a week while I sort out my 300l tank.

Sumps are better than filters, however ND are not the best with the pipework, where abouts in the uk are you? poseidon's palace is good and aquariums ltd do tanks custom made although not used these.

I have a ND aquatics 4x2x2 the tank and stand is nice you'll struggle getting your eheim input and outputs into the tank though due to the bracing of the glass and the lid. I had to cut away at my lid to get my 2078e pro 3 eheim in.

I'm near Southampton.

Hmmm. I think I've read before of issues getting pipework into the ND tanks ... maybe it was you, can't remember.
Might have a chat to them and discuss it. Will also check out poseidon's and aquariums ltd.

PM Markandhisfish, he has a 4 x 2 x 2 from ND and he uses an eheim 2217 and another eheim on his tank, dont recall him having any problems with the pipework.

Ah excellent! A new tank is so exciting! :hyper:

I was going to get the exact same 5x2x2 from ND Aquatics, but due to us moving we haven't got space for a 5ft, so have gone for a more unusual size, but 168USG instead.

Mine is being delivered tomorrow, so you can see another example of their work  I don't use Eheim filters, but told him I wanted to use an FX5 when I ordered, and he said that was fine.

Cool. Just spoke to a chap at ND. He said they standardly put cutouts in both rear corners for pipework on their tanks. SOunds like always4lora somehow got one without, but their standard version (nowadays anyway) does have the cutouts.

Ah exciting times !! what's going in it ?

On the photos I've seen they do seem to have several round holes for pipework as standard on their tanks. I think most people who buy their tanks, buy reasonably large tanks and require pipework for external filters.
