New 5X2X2 On The Way !

Not fair!

I'm still trying to convince my other half to let me buy a 5-6 foot tank yet, never mind her buy me one :(

It's gonna take some mighty chipping! She has a big birthday coming up with a big present list to boot

PM Markandhisfish, he has a 4 x 2 x 2 from ND and he uses an eheim 2217 and another eheim on his tank, dont recall him having any problems with the pipework.

you will have no problems fitting eheim pipework to your nd tank

Its a Juwel 260 vision in black

Vinny the severum is comming to live with me and my mad lot, the 260 is only his temporary home for a week while I sort out my 300l tank.

There you go again adopting more fish. I love it.

I really should stop, but they are just soooo sweet

I love the juwel tanks with the black silicon.

Happy for you, like Minx said though you will think it too small after a while :)

I got a seabray 5ft'er and am very happy with it, I think the ND's are slightly better priced (direct from them rather than through a retailer) and look top notch!

I am also running 2 external filters with it...can I make a suggestion...get yourself 2 external heaters too, leaves you with a nice clear tank (only pipes in and out)

Make sure to get a journal started for it so we can all see the progression

It would be rude not to !

As for filtration I'm very much still up in the air about what I'm going to get. I will have an Eheim 2217 to run on the tank, plus a new one. Was thinking of another 2217 as I am a big Eheim fan. Just not sure that two 2217's will cut it for a large cichlid 5x2x2 tank. The larger Eheims cost an arm and a leg so they are out of the equation. FX5 is always an option, but I just don't know who to believe in terms of reliability, noise etc.

I am running 2 x tetratec ex1200's and love them, the fx5 is bigger though and does look the nuts! The only thing wrong with the fx5's is the hosing, I don't think it is very straight forward to splice for external heaters/uv sterilizers etc, i.e. you either need to replace the existing ribbed hosing or use special connectors which as you'd expect cost quite a bit.

Hmmm. Yes it's another option, although I'd rather stick with another Eheim 2217 than a Tetratec (just personal preference), and they are pretty much the same price.
In the end, though, I think I'm going to need the flow rate of the FX5. Even just one FX5 (2300 l/hr) on the tank, which will be 500 litres, still only gives a 4.6 x turnover rate per hour, which is not enormous.
Might end up with an FX5 and my 2217. That would give a turnover rate of 6.6 x per hour, which seems much more appropriate for a reasonably highly stocked cichlid tank.
