New 20 Gallon Tank

i just set up a new 20 gallon tank and ive got my fish in this little 3 gallon tank (i thought that tank was big enough for my three fish but its not so i went out and got a new 20 gallon tank) its all set up and my fish dont look very happy in that little tank. one is trying to jump out. how long do i HAVE TO wait to put my very unhappy fish in my new 20 gallon tank??? i already put all the salt, conditioner, ect. in, how long MUST i wait

is there a cycled filter or live rock with them?

need more details than the fish are unhappy.

does the 3 gal tank have a filter? does the new tank also have a filter? the bacteria in your filter is what turns ammonia into nitrates which is less harmful to fish, so its the filter you need to concern yourself with not necessarily the tank, your 3 fish would also be unhappy in a 50 gal tank without a filter, its the fact they are breathing in their own waste. di

I think he is talking about the useless aquarium salt for freshwater that you can buy.

And I think that you should cycle your tank first, or move the filter from your 3 gallon, and run it alongside the filter on your new 20 gallon for 3-4 weeks, and then you can remove your 3 gallon filter.

If you are new to the hobby with a 3 gallon and a 20 gallon tank, chances are that neither one has been properly prepared for fish. That would mean that the poison build in the 3 gallon is much faster than it would be in the 20 gallon. In that case, I would move all of the fish to the larger tank while cycling it. If, on the other hand, the 3 gallon has been in use for fish for at least a couple of months, the 3 gallon will be a healthier, if a bit cramped, tank for the fish to wait while the big tank cycles.
