I've started cycling my first tank, and so far its going well (I think, and mostly because of this forum and its members!)

I now don't know what to put in it. So much choice! I like the look of either building a Malawi tank, or a community tank with lots of bright and active fish. (Interesting to watch)

Could you guys (and girls) make some suggestions on the level of stocking my tank could handle for both, and perhaps some ideas of what people already have?

Water PH from the tap is 7.2, and im in a "fairly hard water" area however i have the standard api master kit, so Ive not got a accurate measurement for this.

It's too small for Malawis; you could probably have some of the Tanganyikian shell dwellers in there (ask in the 'Old World cichlid' forum about those!

How about a little Asian 'biotype'; a trio of honey gourmai, a shoal of celestial pearl danios or dwarf emerald rasboras and some chain loach?

Or go South American and have a pair of Apistogrammas, a few green neons or ember tetra, depending on what colour you prefer and some otos?

I had a feeling it was too small even for a "mini malawi", as most people seem to have a minimum of 4ft for them (Although i may be about to rehome an empty 4ft bowfront )

Hmm, looks like you're going for *exactly* the same setup as I'm planning! My stock will be Boraras or Microrasboras, Rosy loaches (the only spp I have been able to find which stays small enough) and a couple of rarer (but peaceful) gouramis.
