New 140gallon Fish Tank Now What To Put In It?

hi
i am the proud new owner of a 50"*30"*24". i'm loving the depth of this tank as i havn't seen many tanks with 30" of depth.

it came with an fx5 but do i need another filter?

this is what i was planning on putting in it so far.
4* pictus catfish
ornate birchir

thats all at the moment i want to have some large aggressive cichlids.

maybe convict, green terror, Buttikoferi, pike cichlid, texas , jack dempsy or electric blue jack dempsy.

what are you thoughts and any suggestions.

also i thought about maybe some sort of gar.

yer they look great! its also great to find some on here who is kinda local. i would definitely think about taking that fish on. just so long as it wouldn't eat my pictus.

I've been having another read about jags and a 180 gallon is recommended with tankmates, 125g for jag alone. Hang on and see what other members think.

you could get away with a jag but not sure wether it will own the tank once its matured,some people have been lucky with tank mates,some like he had not unless you have a much bigger tank,
It all depend's on what you like and what you wan't...
there are many types of fish you could have,some community and then some solo wet pets...

oh yes you should be ok with the fx5...i have mine now two years and its great waters spot on, i also have a tetratec 1000 internal running inside just incase i need to set up a hospital tank for any reason

one more question. i currently have a mature tank which is running a fx5 also, so how many baskets should i swap round i was thinking 2 but i don't want to upset my current setup.

also i'm planning to buy most of my fish online and have them delivered but tbh i can't afford to build up my stock slowing like i normally would, because i don't want to be paying £12 for every go. so basically would it be ok if i swapped my media around then wait a week and then put all my fish in?

i thought if not i could put some small shrimp in to cycle it.

Hmm what media do you have in the fx5 at present, i would be inclined to clone it and spit each tray 50/50 and the outside sponges use one old and one new in each, thats what id do..

not sure what that stuff is off top of my head, but if you can split it thats what i would do, and also add all the muck into new filter
