as Tolak said do small 10% changes daily for a week, then after that get a routine of 30% once a week

Another good idea is when you're doing your water change, you want to use the siphon to vaccuum the gravel and get any wastes up off of the floor of the tank. Otherwise, especially if you don't have any bottom feeder fish, it will all just sit there and decay and mess up the water quality. Also, scraping any algae out of the tank will make it extra pretty

And, of course, keep one eye on the siphon in the tank, but don't forget to watch the end in the bucket. We've all been there...................
