Neon Puffer Info...

OK well the well meaning spouce, went out and bought me a Neon Puffer yesterday. I need to know about these little guys, he is small and right now I have him in with 4 x-ray tetra's and a albino cory cat, they are in a 10 gal with live plants as well as tons of snails. I had been fussing about the snails and that's why he bought the puffer, I just want to make sure I am providing well for it. Right now it is about 1/4" in size. So far the tetra's seem scared of the little bugger. Right now the only other tank I can put him in has 6 Tigar barbs, a albino rainbow shark and Brisle nose pleco, but there are no snails in that tank at all. really need some insite as I'm finding some conflicting info on-line so I thought that I would come to the folks that know.

I havent heard of a Neon Puffer - do you have a picture?

I wouldn't keep any puffer with tetras - it will probably kill them

Also never heard of a neon puffer but s a general rule, puffers belong in species only tank as they will attack other small fish. A phot would definitely help with ID.

I'd hazard a guess that the 'neon puffer' is a dwarf puffer,

If so then max size is only around 1inch, however don't let that fool you they are feisty little fish and can't be kept with general community species.

Ideally dwarf puffers require a sand substrate as they sleep and even bury themselves in it, you will also need to make it quite dense if you want tankmates for the puffer, as it can become fairly aggressive

tbh i would stick the x-rays into your other tank and then maybe a couple more corys and a few otos to the 10G,
