Hi, I have just joined as I have a colony of around 40 Multi's, i started with 4 around 4 years ago. I had been thinning them out by selling to a local fishshop and passing on to friends and family. I stopped feeding them fresh and frozen food in the hope to slow the breading down but they have started to bread again. I am looking to switch things up and are looking for a new home for all the fish. I live in Hertfordshire SG9 area, the fish are in a lovely and healthy condition. I don't require any payment but they need to go to a good home with a decent size tank, and they would need to be collected from my home. If any one is interested please let me know. Thanks

I started with six Multies and had the same experience. I love these guys but dealt with the problem by adding Julies and dwarf compressiceps to the 60 gallon tank. They prey on the fry keeping the numbers manageable.

For others that is UK. Just be aware that while there are a few european and uk users there a lot of americans who like myself are totally clueless as to what a sg9 might represent other than it is greater than sg8 and less than sg10.

Its our postcode system, like the US zipcode system :)

If you don't get any reasonable responses, have a look at local Facebook groups too.

Thanks, I have tried to join a facebook group today but apparently due to Facebook rule changes to live stock I can't offer the fish even though free.🤔

FB said they were being used by puppy pounds pretending to be rescues, so no live animals can be sold or even given away there. The puppy sellers had dogs that weren't for sale, but then they had adoption fees.

And Facebook extended that to fish...

I know of a couple of UK sites based on rehoming fish but I have no experience of using them or how good they services are. Finding a suitable person may be challenging though

It is always the puppy's fault :(

What would happen if you didn't give any fish away?

All the fish I have kept so far have reproduced less after a certain number. Whenever I gave fish away, there were more offspring that grew up again.

Guppies, Tanichthys, Danios, dwarf cichlids... The only species that did not regulate itself was Ancistrus.

I have kept these fish for around 4 years, I have purchased some Severums from my local shop as its closing so every thing is half price or less which forced my hand. I have put these in a mature fully planted tank so before they reck it. I plan to move the barbs and other fish along with plants from this tank to the multi tank once I have moved them on and turn the planted tank to a cichlid tank without plants ph 7ish so not ideal for tanganyikan fish.
