Right now my 10-gallon has a female betta in it (she's mostly passive. . .)

I have another tank with two male guppies and one female guppy (a girly who's still small - not old enough to breed).

I'm going to put the female guppy in with the female betta. Would also adding two platy fish work with this mix? If so, should I add two females of that species so, the four chicks in the 10-gallon?

I had wanted the guppy to have one fry, but I'm not sure if my husband will go for that. . .I'm still thinking on that one, but in the mean time want to seperate the female guppy out and the 10-gallon is the only that'll work.

A female guppy should be fine with a Betta splendens. I have had my betta chase platies but he never caught or harmed any of them.

I stopped by the pet store to check out their selection and the gal there said that the betta will probably nip at the platy. I only found one I liked. It was a lemon yellow color. The rest were too big and many of the females were pregnant.

Will a single female platy be okay in a tank with the betta? (since I only saw that one.)

The single platy will be fine with your betta. Platies are often kept in groups but are not what you would call a schooling fish.

Okay, I'll go back and get her.

If they get along, I'll add another female platy into the group to create more movement. If they don't get along, I'll move her to my guppy tank and they can make hybrid/mutant babies! lol

I doubt the hybrid mutant babies GuppyGoddess. Although the males will keep trying, platies and guppies cannot cross.

lol GOOD! Must have gotten the ability to cross breed confused with guppies and another species.

The female betta is pecking at the platy I brought home. There are lots of hiding spots and the platy is using them to her advantage. Hopefully this works out. The bad news is if it doesn't this means it'll probably be impossible to put my female guppy into the betta tank, hence leaving my female guppy with the two males. I hope they learn to eat all their potential fry before my husband gets home from work each night :)
