Hi all!

I'm hoping to get some advice for a tank I would like to set up. First off, I was an avid fish keeper for years. I have had all kinds of tanks and all kinds of fish. I have had everything from a 1 gallon tank to a 50 gallon tank and kept everything from 2 inch guppies to 10" goldfish. So I'm very knowledgeable about aquariums and water parameters, filtration, etc. I have not only kept fish, but I have successfully bred them as well. So I have a good background with fish keeping. But I am wanting to try something new.

I have an empty 50 gallon tank that has not been used for a couple of years. I have a sand substrate for it and I have plenty of plants, decor, etc. I have been reading up on betta sororities and I would love to have one. I know females can be aggressive as well so I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with a sorority. If so, any advice on setting one up? I know I have plenty of room with 50 gallons and there will be all kinds of hiding spots for them. I know the more females I have (there will be NO male in the tank), the more spread out the aggression will be if there is any at all. So what's a good number to have in a 50 gallon? I have also read that I should have a plan in place to remove any females that are not working well in the sorority. I have multiple smaller tanks that I could use as well if I have to rehome a few.

But if anyone has any advice on creating a successful sorority I would love to hear it! Thanks in advance!

Provided that there will be loads of tall plants I'd say you can have 20 or so. Adding some bottom feeders such as loaches, smaller plecos, corydoras etc. would give you a lovely and hopefully peaceful community.

Like I always say " you can never have too many plants "

This video has me looking at my 6 foot 100 gallon heavily planted tank and muttering to my self " If I re home the tetras.....

Yes, I will have all kinds of plants! Preferably live ones but I will probably have some fake ones as well until the live ones have had time to take root and grow throughout the tank. I have kept bettas before but never a sorority. Just one male at a time. I know their bioload is very small but I had never kept corys before so I didn't know about their footprint in the tank. But live plants will also help with the bioload as well. That's why I want a ton of them. I will probably start out with around 10 bettas and a few corydoras.
