I think a pair of severum's would be nice in that tank.

At my lfs there is a large golden severum and also a large green severum, supose they would look good together, maybe with a blue lobster :/

Does this tank already have any fish in it or is this a completely new start?

Perhaps you should focus not on the fish stocking but rather the actual look/decor of the tank.
Stuff like this for example :) ;

(Lots more pics of such aquriums in this link: http://www.creedofgoop.com/2009/12/goop-is-setting-up-paludarium.html?showComment=1262014446611 )

I mean this tank only has a shoal of Harlequin tetras but will certainly make people go "Oooo!!". Even if you are not any good at growing plants or don't have the time or cash to invest into them, you can still have a fabulously striking aquarium by artistically placing some large interesting rocks or driftwood on some fine sand substrate etc :nod: .

Tanganyikan Cichlids? :good:

dont want to offend anyone, but to me tanganikan cichlids dont do anything for me, they all seem the same shape & size i wan somthing a bit different :/

what if i took all the water out, what could go in then?

Ummm, I can`t believe you just said that!! :hyper: :hyper: :grr: :lol: :lol:

The mbuna setups can look very nice if you`re after something different and colourful, it`s just a case of compatibility more than anything I think between the many different types. :)

I would seriously recommend giving the thoughts of keeping a lobster alongside fish a miss though :no:

The tank is about 1 year old,

has anyone got any frogs, newts or crabs ideas?
thanks :)

If you go for frogs in the future, make sure you get African Dwarf Frogs & Not African Clawed frogs if you want to keep fish in the same tank, as African Clawed Frogs eat fish. ACF's come in albino which ADF's do not, ACF's also grow to the size of a fist while ADF's grow to only a couple of inches long. Other ways to indentify differences between ACF's & ADF's;

http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/species/clawedordwarf.html

You can keep ADF's with fish but they can be out-competed for food by fish and definitely prefer a very planted set up. I believe they may also need to have a mature tank set up (but not certain on this).

Other amphibian-wise, Axolotls are available in the hobby (but they eat fish & sometimes even each other);

http://www.theamphibian.co.uk/axolotl_care_sheet_Ambystoma_mexicanum.htm

Red Clawed Crabs are commonly available in the hobby but they can also eat small fish and may destroy live plants.

All lobsters are predatory.

BUT, there are a number of freshwater shrimp available, but while a lot of shrimp are peaceful scavengers, some are predatory (for example Long Arm Shrimp, which are territorial & have predatory tendancies).
Safe shrimps;
1. Algae eating/peaceful scavenger shrimps (for example Amano Shrimps)
2. Fan shrimps (for example Cameroon Shrimps)

But all shrimp need mature tank set ups (i.e. tank 6months+ old that has been running with no water quality issues for the past couple of months etc), they are very sensitive to water quality and can be tricky to acclimatise properly. Some of the peaceful shrimp grow very small while others grow quite large, and some are sociable and need others of their own kind while others are fine with being kept on their own. It depends on the type of shrimp.
But because your tank is a new i wouldn't advise any shrimp.
In fact pretty much all of the crustaceons & amphibians do best in or need a mature tank set up. But if you're interested in them enough, they are definitely worth waiting for (i've had my Amano shrimp for years now and love them to bits, they live very happily in my 30gal swordtail fry tank ^_^v ).

My lfs has terrapins!

Turtles are a total no-no for fish tanks (lots of reasons why).

That actually sounds pretty awesome. :lol: You could have loads of them running around in little tunnels and stuff :rolleyes:

Your right though, bit of a waste, I'd sooner have fishes in there!

James.

What about a bunch of some semi-aquatic frogs. You could scape it so there is a pool of water on one seide and slope it up on the other end above the water. Maybe a bunch of poison dart frogs.

What about a terrarium setup for say, a bearded dragon or a snake.
