“naturally” breeding for colors???

I have an oddball gardneri that’s appeared . His colors are markedly and noticeably different than all the others . I have no illusions about selectively breeding to produce a new strain , he’s a just a random oddball .
Sadly we do not have @emeraldking here to chime in on this . I would love to hear what The Oracle has to say about this .

Mutations are a common thing. The only question that remains is, will the new traits (color, pattern or shape) inherit dominantly or not.

You know, as a not livebearer fan or keeper, I would separate the colorful females from the less colorful & see what happens. If, after a generation or 2, you can judge which you'd prefer to focus on. I tend to like wild strains but admit to liking colorful fish.

The two aren't mutually exclusive--brilliant color and wild populations. @emeraldking has posted some fantastic photos of brilliantly colored wild livebearers in his charge, most memorably the most gorgeous wild X. variatus I've ever seen.
