Just poked my head in the garage and my Uarus have laid eggs which look decent on a piece of bogwood next to a big pit they;ve made in the sand

They appear to be fanning them etc. How well do they care for young?

 You lucky devil. I hope they hatch :good:

so do I although I don;t expect nothing of them to be honest and I doon;t have spare tanks to house eggs in etc which is a shame but I knew they were a pair!!

They are like discus the uaru will produce extra slime Coat for the fry to eat. So they are great parents. The uaru fry don't need this slime as much as discus fry do but it would be a good idea to let the fry stay with parents for a few week.

If they are alone in the tank ther is a very good chance many fry will make it. What take mates do they have?

Agreed with the above statement. If there are any plecos, loaches, snails, catfish, etc... I would remove them from the tank for atleast 2 months so the uaru fry can grow.
When the uaru fry have reached about 2-4 weeks I would get another tank for them.
Congrats on them breeding!
Pics are a must, pls and thanks!

Congrats mate !

Don't think that many folks actually breed uaru, as it requires a lot of space to do so. Hope a few make it !

well I spoke to soon as the eggs have gone . The Uaru are still hanging around the same spot (the pit) but from what I can gather without tank light on they;re gone

I couldn;t move fish out now anyway as its the only freshwater tank I have and I;m not in a position to fit more in. Tankmates are clownloaches, discus and a caecillian

I expect the loaches had a nice snack. Or the uaru may have even eaten them themselves. Ah well.

too bad mate , altho probably a blessing in disguise. i rekon that with fry to protect life would of been very hard for your discus .

I know mate I;m not too fussy about raising fry. Snakeheads are the best for that as you just let them bring them up themselves!!! No more kids for me!!

If the parents are still hanging around the pit good chance the eggs hatches. You don't know when they spawned and with no light on you would need Hawk eyes to see tiny fry. So just wait.

I think the parents could do a good job keeping those tank mates away. I think the eggs hatched.

Thats good news although a sad outcome, empty tak except for them, then leave them too it,my angels took 6 attemps before we had free swimmers...

Oh i would love to have had your rubber eel, noticed your selling, grrrrr
