Hi, these r my tanks, im pretty useless at aquascaping so any help would be appreciated...

The first is my new project, its 2ft x 1ft x 1ft, just finished making the hood and adding 2 x 30 watt compact fluorescents, 6400k daylight bulbs and some aquatic compost under the sand, so il have to see how this turns out as its kind of an experiment for me. I only have 2 young jewel cichlids in it atm as guinea pigs as im not sure about the compost as its for ponds but they have been ok for the last 3 days.

The second is my main tank, its 2 n a half ft x 1 ft x 1 n a half ft, i have no idea how to get the best from this tank, over the years i have grown most plants i put in it n thats how it stands atm. If the aquatic compost works in the new tank i will re do this 1 with compost also, it currently has a breeding pair of red jewel cichlids and numerous fry in it. any help on how to aquascape this would be greatly appreciated, the plants are vallis, twisted vallis and wisteria (i think).

Hi mate, I think they need a bit of work in terms of layout. You could add more hardscape, bits of wood look really good as a focal point. Tie moss to the wood and plant around it. Have a read of some of the planted journals in the planted section of this forum for some inspiration.

The first tank is a new set up, its only been runin a week so i jus threw sum spare plants in it, i reckon in a couple of month when the plants grow it will b pretty full, il check out the planted section but theres only a limited selection of plants in my local lfs's. N the wood is always big pieces, id love some twiggy pieces but can never find any

Yeah i would definately go for roots and branches. Get some wood in there and you will see a big difference. Plenty of moss too :good:

Coldcazzie has some 'xmas moss' on the tip of her wood, looks stunning IMO. I want to steel that look off her :shifty:

You should try the same mate in your first tank like mint suggested :good:

Why not purchase your plants online?

Ok, so i decided to redo my main tank (second photo above) i removed the rocks, added some bogwood and more plants, glosso, hydrocotyle verticillata, myriophyllum mattogrossense, elodea densa and another which i dont know the name of... its the 1 in front of the filter so if anybody knows the name.... hopefully when it all grows in it should look ok now.... comments suggestions welcome

Move the wood to one side and leave the middle open so it gives the appearance of the tank going on for ever. All you're drawn to is the piece of wood.

what do you mean?

move it to which side?

how far to the side?

what about the plants?

I just cant picture in my mind what u mean
