My Severums Have Laid Eggs

Yep its best course of action tbh, daily water changes and keep dosing the meds, clean water is the best thing for her, hopefully nothing nasty got in the wound to cause it to get worse, its normal(ish) for wounds to appear worse before they get better, they often go fluffy as the scales start to grow back, least thats what Ive found, particularly with severums, when Harry caused Vinny some serious injuries, they looked very bad and it took a while for them to heal completely, but to look at him now, you would never know.

Thanks Minxy pretty reassuring that bit with Vinny and Harry :) Ill just try to do my best for her. Like I say started using Melafix now aswell - I always thought Primafix was a stronger version of Melafix so was just using Primafix but when I actually read the labels tonight I realised that Melafix is bacterial and primafix is fungal so I suspect it is a bacterial infection in there as well now as it did clearly get worse today and that was with primafix in the water so hoping the melafix will knock the bacterial stuff on the head and the water changes will help her heal asap.

Thanks again!

Hope she recovers ok, cant offer any other advice on top of what you are doing. :good:

Thanks Star

So new problem - it is absolutley BOILING tonight in my flat I have no idea why but it is I am sweltering and the tank is really hot as well got fans pointing at it but not much help really :( With the addition of all the meds that have been in the tank all my rainbows are gasping at the surface and one of my big annostomus is at the surface as well :(

I really have no idea why it is so hot #63###

If you have no spare powereheads or filters, drop the water level as much as possible so the pump can still get water through, but the extra drop will cool the water and aerate it a bit more

Maybe also do a water change of say ~25%, adding back cooler water slowly, say a bucket every 20 minutes, giving each cool bucket of water time to mix and slowly lower the temp (I did this on a scale of 50% tonight for my Rio240, as I discovered a temp of 28C, way too hot for my riverines).

We lost her :( Just got up to go to work and she was upside down on the bottom of the tank. The wound looked even worse in the dark.

I am about 80% certain that the wound was caused by her banging into something rather than a bite just because it was so big and also in the days surrounding her getting the bite she was top fish in the tank. There are a number of branches from my wood near the spawning site so if she had been startled during the breeding she could have shot off quite easily. It would also explain why the wound was so deep as well.

If I am honest with my self its my fault for being stupid and not dosing with Melafix as well as Primafix to get the bacterial side of things.
RIP Dasiy

Im going to keep the male Severus now but stick to the other plan as regards the fish I keep. Thanks for the help with this everyone. Going to do a large water change before we go to work just to make sure we catch anything in the water.

#41####. Really sorry about that

So sorry to hear she passed away, lets hope she has passed on genes to some fry in your tank...

Did the water temp improve?

At work at the moment so doing this on the sly haha

Thanks for the messages guys, pretty gutted with the outcome to be fair I really dont think that the wound was caused through aggression the more I think about it the initial wound was just too deep for it to be a love peck so to say and like I say she was top fish in the tank and ruled the male with a lot of dominance with the male often showing his belly over and over.

The temp was okay this morning sitting at 26 I have no idea why it was so hot last night the whole flat was sweltering and there was a torrential down pour in hull this morning luckily I think the other fish are okay. I did a water changes before we set off as well which wasnt too bad but not something you want in a morning but should be okay for now I think.
