:hyper: This is the tank I had before and I took suggestions from other people on how to use my tank to full advantage using hiding spots and using plants.

Well this was my tank, I moved it in my gfs room and I bought this (though I wish it was longer, I guess itll do) http://www.fishforums.net/New-Pictures-For...er-t196719.html

i tried to take a picture of the fish but they were so damn stubborn

and this one

I think its quite an improvement

COuple questions though,

When I do water changes which I tend to do every week or so of about 2 gallons or so, how do I keep the salinity level within good range? I can pre mix the salt water in a different buket and add it in small amounts with the water change?

I am feeding my current fish once a day but I am feeding them pellets and they dont seem to eat any of it because they are paying attention when I add the food so it just sinks to the bottom and they go hungry......what do I do?

um... well, my first question is what size tank is that? and secondly what's the stock?

Also, you should have live sand and rock, or atleast an arogonite substrate to help keep the PH high, the live rock helps with filtrartion I've been told, the tank looks okay, but it seems to have a more freshwater theme to it opposed to saltwater, their aren't many plants in the sea, I recommend revamping that tank entirly with live rock (1- 1 1/4 pound of live rock per gallon of water) and with live sand or argonite. Also, if possible try to find a lighting sytem (or bulb) that's compatible with your tank that has a visible blue spectrum...

Edit---> In regards to the water changes, pick up a Hydrometer and messure the salinity of the tank it self, do a water change of about 2-3 gallons once every week or 2, remember not to add the salt directly to the tank as it may cause a salt burn to the fish. Also, when premixing the water, try to get it as close to the temperature and salt level as the tank is.

its a Eclipse 12 Gallon Saltwater

Question:

How do I redo a aquarium without killing my fish................

being new to saltwater can you tell me where I might be able to find live rock at and arogonite substrate? My LFS has live sand.......and second, thats the lighting that came with my tank

I have a Hydometer and it reads 1.023 so thats good

NIce tank u got over there. Gr8 decoration. Cool fish u have very nice color.

Alright, well if your LFS has the live sand, get that. Much easier than having to look for Arogonite, and IMO better :good: what you'll have to do to revamp this tank is empty out atleast 6 gallons of the water for fish to swim in, into a bucket of some sort, keep the other 6 gallons aswell or atleast as much of it as possible. Depending on where you live will depend on what store will sell the live rock, I live in Canada so I buy my live rock from Big Als (only once, $7.99 per pound of fiji), usually from a little mom and pop shop called Sea U Marine ($5 per pound of fiji). Since it's an eclipse 12gallon tank I'm not sure if there is a blue light, so you'll have to make due with flouresent. You have the hydrometer, that's perfect, just make sure when doing the water change the salinity is + or - 0.001 salinity of what the tank it self is.

I dont think you need to do LR and LS if you dont want too, i have a 12 gallon tank and i have deco rocks and coral sand and a filter. I dont use LR or LS and to me, looks like you have damsels, if your going to just stick wth them, waterchanges and not over feeding and it should be fine. In my tank which is fish only like yours i have a blackfin clown and a firefish,

My FO 12gallon has had no ill effects on my fish about a month and a half i have had it up now, as for decoration (is that coral gravel?) if you want a more natural look, you can get base rocks very cheep like £1-2 a KG, and some macro algae that helps with filteration.

And I have to disagree about LS, do dont know how long the sand(bacteria) has been out of contact with their needs, eg oxygen and spors have been in the pack. waste of money in my opinion. If you do get LR then that will turn you sand live over time anyway. I use no live anything and all my fish are healthy and eating flakes wll. If your fish wont eat pellets try flakes or frozen (better, live).

I am not going to do LR and LS basically because the only retailer is 45 mins away and they dont have warranty on any saltwater. What I did though was get some more regular rocks that are the same color and made more hiding spots for my clownfish (which I picked up as well), since I cant do anemoeies (spelling, murdered that word haha). I think Ill be happy with just 2 damsels and 2 false perculas.

The pellets seem like they are for bigger fish. What is frozen food? What kind?

Can I see a picture of your entire tank?

how many fish are in that tank? and what types of fish are they? looks like I see 3 of them and I think all are damsels...

4 all together, 2 false percula clowns, and 2 damsels

I know they might not have the best back ground of getting along but as long has they have a lot of hiding spots it should be fine I was told.

It looks lovely and simple if ya ask me, a very nice relaxed tank from the looks of it :)

:hyper:

Frozen food it just live food frozen, its things like brine shrimp and bloodworm, its about £2 .50 at my LFS for a pack with loads of push out feeds but you can cut them in 1/4 and feed 1 1/4 3 times a day, or something like that. As the damsles get older you may have some space issues, maybe in the future you will upgrade? The clowns could be hiding because of the damsles but, they like to stick to one place, my one stays in his cave unless there is food in there.
I think you have a really nice setup, its not the most natural (saltwater) looking, but it looks really nice. Its nice to talk to someone in the same possition as me, a fish only nano (12 gallon) and both of us having success.
I will get a pic of my whole tank ASAP for you.
I wish your tank all the luck, but aslong as you keep up water changes and water top ups (evap top ups - fresh water, water changes - saltwater (same SG as you tank water 1.022-1.026)) and dont over feed i dont know why it wouldn't be a success.

Also keep an upgrade in mind, many people will say you are overstocked, well maybe you are, but keep the water conditions right and you should have success.

Sean,
