hi, i need to move my old 120l tank out of a gap between my other tank and the wardrobes. i then need to get my new 240l back in. (space is not a problem). but i will have to bag the fish up as i cannot do cycling (will have filters already cycled).
what i want to do is transfer as much of the water from my 120l to my 240l but it will be heavy. but i cannot see a way of doing it as i can move the 120l full of water and i cannot siphon the water into the 240l and move the 120l out and the 240 in. as that will be just as heavy. i have buckets that can hold a total of 26 litres between them. how do i go about doing this? i literally want to transfer the water accross, the filters and then acclimatise the fish for a few mins.

Is the PH from the tap the same as the PH in the tank? If it is you dont need to keep any water at all. Bag the fish and move the tanks, put the filters in the bucket of tank water, then grab a hosepipe, dechlor and fill the biggy up. Add warm water to get temp about right, but when you float the fish they will get used to a slight change in temp anyway (as they would if you had just bought them).
Stick in the filters and bobs your uncle! Dont forget this will only really work if the PH levels of the tap/tank match though.

The only way i can see you doing this, without buying any large containers is to pump the water to your 240L that you will have near by somewhere, then move the empty, or nearly empty 120L, pump the water back into the 120 L, move the 240l into position and then fill up the 240l, a lot of messing around i admit, but if you have got a pond pump or something it will not take too long to pump 120l of water.

Cheers Gordon

i dont have a pond pump spare  i will check the ph but im not sure how it is! its a real problem. im sure others must have had this!

do as above,if you have a power filter just put a pipe on the outlet and pump it across to the other tank (simple)then just punp it back :good:

sounds good, i have 2 fluval 4's so it should not take a massive amount of time!!! so its: 120l to 240l (move the 120l out) water in the 240 back into the 120l (move 240 in) put water in the 240l. but i will already have the substarte etc in the 240l (substarte and substrate fert) so adding water etc will mix it up!

substarte should be ok,just put a plate on top of it and pump the water onto it, :good:
