My Parents Won The Centre Piece At The Wedding...

My parents went a wedding this weekend and won the centre piece. 6 fish. I very much do not agree with this, but I am at least glad they are coming here. After fighting with my father as to why 6 "goldfish" (3 of which I don't even think are gold fish and will need help iding when I get pictures) can't be kept in a 2 gallon tank...

Right now they are very quiet at the bottom of this glass bowl, and I am going to put them in my 5 gallon tank that is finished it's cycle for now to house them. I have a 10 gallon, but that has to be washed out and cycled, so for now the 5 will have to do.

I really don't know what kind of fish some of them are. And one has white stringy poop hanging down, is this a parasite? I will tret them for stress, but I am off to the pet store now to pick up some things and I think I should pick up more parasite stuff just in case.

3 of the fish are a dark orange, thin and long looking. 1 is gold with a blank stripe down the top of his head and black tail, one is all dark grey and the other has a little bit of black on him. I know, horrible descriptions, but I have to take pictures.

So far my main thing is i need to id these fish, is anyone can help based on my poor descriptions, it would be appreciated!!

you will need around a 100g for 6 goldfish. a 10g wont work at all. i would take them to a lfs or to a friend with a pond.

Anyway, for now a big rubbermaid tub would be best.

i did read it, im assuming if it was for a wedding that they could be female bettas. although they look nothing like goldfish.

I know what a female betta is lol and they are definately not them, i checked those pictures of the goldfish, and none look like that. My father asked if they might be feeder fish? In this picture the one with the black strips down its back looks like one of the ones I have

I will go over to wal mart or giant tiger (yes, that's all about we have in this small town i live in) and see what rubbermaids they have. I took some pictures but I will have to put them on my computer at work, as my camera hookup is there. I will be at work as usual at 7:30

This is so frustrating though, WHY give out fish at weddings? what is the purpose? And what even makes me more irritated, is that the night before they had a practice run with the fish, and over half of them died. They still went with it anyway.

the pict is of koi, if thats what you have then you are going to need a HUGE container. rember goldies come in all colors, compair them to body shape and fins, not the colors.

goldies can have black on them, in fact, none of the colors you described are impossible variations in goldfish. generally, feeder fish stores are either young common goldfish, rosy red/fathead minnows, or guppies. I think you'd know if they were guppies, and although the minnows can be kind of greyish, i've never seen any with black markings.

You probably have young goldfish or koi. You can tell by the fins and body shape.

the grey one looks a little like that. They have sharped edged back fins, very defined. I have them in my 5 gallon temporarily now, they are all eating and seem to be getting on fine

Oh my gosh man chill! You always get these odd numbers in your head when talking about Goldfish! The rule is 20 gallons for the first Goldfish, then 10 gallons for every next one, so I don't know where you got that number from... Man this isn't the first time we have told you!


Welcome I.michelle! If you have common goldfish (not including Shubunkin, pond comets and Koi) then you will need a 70 gallon tank minimum. You may be able to get away with a 60 or 65 gallon tank, but thats pushing it.
