He won't wait for them to thaw all the way and eats the frozen chunk. Is this alright?

I do only feed him half a Hikari Frozen Bloodworm Cube twice, sometimes only once, a day along with clumps of krill and New Life Spectrum Flakes, which oddly enough he only likes the red ones, lol, I know, I'm crazy but he does.

Anyways I was just wondering if it was harmful to him if he ate the frozen bit, just didn't want it to shock him or anything. He doesn't seemed bothered by it, but I just can't stop thinking about it when he gobbles it up.

So you`re putting half a block of bloodworm into the tank while it`s still frozen?? :hyper:

If you`re not more careful your Oscar will end up with atrocious stomache ache at the very least. I would seriously recommend putting the bloodworm block into a small pot and adding a small amount of tank water to it to help it thaw and sink better when you add it to the tank. I personally would never, ever add frozen food for my fish to eat

i cant believe you're moaning he wont wait for them to thaw, easy answer is dont put them in till they've thawed  i put mine in an eggcup and put them in the airing cupboard for 15 minutes.

oh i also didnt know you had to thaw them
but by time my corys get them they are thawed

I never thaw mine. Goes straight in the tank, and my fish eat it from my fingers.

Been doing this best part of a year with absolutely no drawbacks thusfar.

I do thaw them slightly, I grab them from my fridge downstairs and put them in a wet paper towel with hot water. Then carry them upstairs and they are nice and bloody by then. Then I hold it in the water till they start coming off, then once I release it, gobble and its gone.

I tend to thaw them in a ramekin(small bowl) with a bit of tank water and then pour them through a net and throw the water away.

People feeding fish frozen food  you should all ways make sure it's thawed out, would you like to eat frozen food?

Awesome, glad I'm not doing any harm.

I don;t think any of us can say for sure whether its harmful or not,Personally I thaw it first but oscars are such greedy beggers they will eat anythinkg you put in!!
What I would comment on is that you would be best feeding something more substantialthan bloodworm for an oscar as I believe there isn;t a great deal of nutrition in bloodworm

Its also a waste of money to be feeding him chunks of blood worms daily. If you want that high of a protein diet switch to regular frozen jumbo shrimp from the grocers. The kind you would eat, just cut them up into manageable chunks. The cost per pound is much much lower then blood worms and they are much better for him and super tasty.

My oscars LOVE the frozen food, frozen! Once defrosted, they only eat small bits and tend to ignore it now they are 8"+, however, they go cuckoo for it in frozen blocks, nearly snatch it out my hand, they watch me go to the freezer, plop out two blocks, one each and are going nuts by the time the lid is opened. It wont hurt them at all, dont know how large your oscar is, but mine have been doing this since they were much smaller, its like an ice lolly to them, never had any problem with digesion or stomache ache. They take bloodworm, shrimp, mussel, prawn, krill etc all like this.

Oh, and Mikaila is right, just frozen bloodworms is not an ideal diet.

I feed my lot on a variety of frozen foods Daphnia/Artemia/Krill/Bloodworms/chopped Mussels/Cichlid Mix/frozen prawns and just about any insects I can find buzzing about the house :)

A nice range is a good idea, helps ensure they get the variety of nutrients required to grow healthily.
