After years of keeping marine ive decided to get myself a tropical tank.
Ive only just put the slate in tonight and im waiting for my live plants to be delivered.

It might get moved around again yet as im not sure im happy with it...

The first fish will be going in on the weekend.

Any thoughts or ideas??

That's a nice looking set up, will look good with some fish in.
However, and I'm sure many will agree, using live fish to mature a tank is not the most ethical method. Yes, you get fish to look at, but the conditions the fish have to endure are far from ideal and is possible the fish will not survive the maturing process altogether

that tank looks good just bought my self a bag of slate wanted to do something like that :good:

i like the rock formation. how big is it? it looks to me like a 29g?

Its a juwel vision 180 So 180 litres, Sorry im not sure what that is in gallons.

Thanks for all the comments guys. :good:

Itll look nice with some plants etc..but as mentioned please cycle the tank without fish. Using fish to cycle the tank is cruel and tbh a terrible life for them.

Heres some pics of my tank now its finished.

Looking good I think.....?

Will be adding more fish as and when.

Looking good, but you have some non-aquatic plants in there!

Non-aquatic plants will rot and ruin your water, so it's best to remove them.

Most lfs seems to love selling these plants

The white and green one on the right is definately non-aquatic, not sure about any of the others, though.

I was sold one of those once, tried to grow it out of water but I think it had already been too soaked while submerged. A good general trick is that if it stands up out of water then it's non-aquatic [apart from some, like anubias], yet if it doesn't - it's usually aquatic.

Apart from that it's a beautiful tank, I see you've gone for some colourful livebearers - what other plans have you got in the way of fish?

Regards,
Paul

that tank looks really good but its not cycled...why didnt you do a fishless cycle like others above suggested before you added fish?

To clear up the confusion the tank has been maturing for weeks with just the water and sand using Biomature.

Once the filter was mature I added the slate and plants and a few fish.
The matureing comment I made in my original post ment to get rid of the shiny new penny look and make it look more natural.

Not sure as yet what other fish to add ill have tohave a look in other peoples tanks for ideas.

Biomature...dont know that one but most if not all of them do nothing to cycle a tank. The only one that actually has been seen to work is Biospyra. You should confirm its actually cycled, do water checks.
