Hey Guys,
I figured I would share some of the excitement I've had this past week or so. After having friends and colleagues tell me that I should help people out with their aquariums I decided to post an ad on craiglist and see what happens. Being in a small community of around 75,000 the market for these types of services is not huge. I was pleasently surprised though to find that their are some people out there that are looking for some help in regards to fish keeping.

I've already made a couple calls back and forth with potential clients and have already set up appointments with two. I am not looking to make this a full time gig, although if it turns in to that I will be happy :) I have spoken with a LFS owner and he knows me and said that once I get business cards he won't hesitate to mention the services and give a card to every aquarium customer or fish customer that seems upset or ready to give up.

I am planning on adding liability coverage to my insurance at the end of the month. My agent said that it would only cost a few hundred extra a year, so I figure I will do that after I get a couple clients just to make myself look even more credible. I am pricing my services on a sliding scale based on what is needed and the size of the tank.

This probably isn't much of a huge deal and I'm not trying to say it is I just figured I would share with you guys that it's very plausible once you know what you're doing! It's going to be interesting to see what may come from this. It could tank but I still have my day job!

Being bored a few days ago I designed a logo for my "Company" My plans are also to do all of this legally paying taxes once I've made more than a few hundred dollars (I'm 90% sure that's when you are required to start fully paying)

good luck, let us know how you get on, there's a few people on this site who work for maintenance companies, think there's even more who'd love to :D

My favourite fish store has just launched a similiar aquarium installation and maintanance service.

I think it's a great idea. You're helping out others and (hopefully) making money out of doing something you (hopefully) enjoy.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. Do you happen to know which members work for maintenance companies? I would like to shoot them a couple PM's to ask a couple questions.

The business is going to be part time and the way it is now I would like to pick and choose which scenarios will work out best for me.

On a side note I was just told I will be given an 80 gallon tank and stand and a bunch of 10 gallon tanks from a nice lady that kicked her fish loving son out of the house!

I wish my mother will never throw away my fish . Good luck, and it sounds like a lot of fun!

haha I know it... It actually ended up being an 80, a 30, a 29, a 10 gallon half water half land frog tank and a 30 gallon terrarium aquarium thing that I will put some small fry and maybe a couple frogs in. I was pretty stoked!!! Thank you freecycle!!!

Their was a 150 gallon acrylic saltwater tank that was complete and I tried to persuade her to let me have it but she said her son would kill her if she gave that away. She offered an older chiller, but I have no use for it and God knows it probably didn't work.

Do you know why she kicked him out? He must have been some marine enthusiast.

Well I guess he is married and lived there with his wife for 3-4 years and I guess it became a bad situation for everyone... So I guess they left and didn't bring their tanks... The daughter in law's brother owns one of the bigger fish stores here in town and gave them a lot of the tanks.

How sad yet exciting. :good:

I believe Craigslist is a wonderful way to advertise your business. And to find much needed items. Kudos.

Craiglist is definately a great form of Advertisement and a wonderful place to buy and sell items. I have sold all kinds of things on there and found even weirder things to buy!

Good luck m8, let us know how it's going.

My self I'm very busy doing aquatic maintenance and I'm going mad here in the UK if u need a hand then I'm willing to travel ;)
Most of my jobs are in shop's so i need to try to clean 2-3 shops befor they open as very few will allow me to work during the shop is open.

So I'm currently getting up at around 4.30am and finishing at 3pm.
